be like Christ

Let us follow the Son of God in all ways and in all walks of life. Let us make Him our exemplar and our guide. We should at every opportunity ask ourselves, ‘What woud Jesus do?’ and then be more courageious to act upon the answer. We must follow Christ, in the best sense f that word. We must be about his work as he was about his Father’s. We should try to be like him.”
    --- Howard W. Hunter
    Ensign, May 1994, p.64

  • If we can pattern our life after the Master, and take his teaching and example as the supreme patter for our own, we will not find it diffecult to be consistent and loyal in every walk of life, for we will be committed to a single, sacred standard of conduct and belief.
    --- Howard W. Hunter
    Ensign, May 1990, p. 60

  • Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father wil all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son Jesus Christ; that ye may becom ethe sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as his is pure. Amen.
    --- Mormon
    Moroni 7:48

  • Now, my brethren and sisters, the time has come for us to stand a little taller, to lift our eyes and stretch our minds to a greater comprehension and understadning of the grand millenial mission of this The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is a season to be strong. It is a time to move forward without hesitation, knowing well the meaning, the breadth, and the importance of our mission. It is a time to do what is right regarless of the consequences that might follow. It is a time to be found keeping the commandments. It is a season to reach out with kindness and love to those in distress and to those who are wandering in darkness and pain. It is a time ot be considerate and goo, decent and courteous toward one another in all of our relationships. In other words, to become more Christlike.
    --- Gordon B Hinckley
    Ensign, May 1995, p 71

  • We must know Christ better than we know him; we must remember him more often than we remember him; we must serve him more valiently than we serve him. Then we will drink water sprining up unto eternal life and will eat the bread of life ... What manner of men and women ought we be? Even as he is.
    --- Howard W Hunter
    Ensign, May 1994, p. 64

charity

  • Charity ... is a love beyond the emotion we might feel for or from others. It isn’t a ‘what’s in it for me?’ kind of love. Being friendly, generous, and respectful of others moves us along the way from self-concern, but the selflessness of the kind of love that Christ commanded us to learn is a high step indeed. ‘Bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that hate you, and pray for them who despitefully use you’ (3 Ne 12:44) He promises that as we learn that kind of love, we can become perfect!”
    ---Aileen H. Clyde
    Ensign Nov. 1993, p.93

  • And chraity sufferth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
--- words of Mormon, written by Moroni
    Moroni 7:45

  • But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.
--- words of Mormon, written by Moroni
    Moroni 7:47

example

  • Be what you wish others to become.

  • A candle-glow can pierce the darkest night.

  • The blossom cannot tell what becomes of its odor and no man can tell what becomes of his influence and example that roll away from him and go beyond his view.

  • The kindly word that falls today may bear its fruit tomorrow.

  • Kindness is a language the mute can speak and the deaf understand.

  • Be careful how you live; you may be the only Bible some people will ever read.

  • Children need models more than they need critics.

  • Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unot all that are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
    Matt 5:14-16

missionary work

  • The powerful missionary spirit and the vigorous missionary activity in The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints becomes a very significant witness that the true gospel and that the authority are possessed here in the church. we accept the responsibility to preach the gospel to every person on earth. And if the question is asked, ‘You mean you are to convert the entire world?’ the answer is, ‘Yes we will try to reach every living soul.
    --- Boyd K Packer
    Conference Report, Oct 1975, p. 145

  • And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
    Mark 16:15

  • It is my firm conviction ... that unless we stir ourselves more than we are doing, htat when we go to the other side of the veil, we will meet there men and women who have been our neighbors, and associates, and lived among us, that will condemn us because we have been so inconsiderate of them in not telling them of the gospel of our Lord.
    --- George Albert Smith
    Conference Report, Oct 1916, p49-50

sacrifice

  • Jesus ... initiated the sacrament of the Lord’s supper. sacrifice stopped and sacrament started. It wa the end of the old era, the beginning of the new. Sacrifice looked forward to the shed blood and bruised flesh of the lamb of God. The sacrament was to be in rememberance of his spilt blood and broken flesh, the emblems, bread and wine ....
    --- Bruce R McConkie
    Doctrinal New Testament Comentary, p. 719 -720

  • And after many days an angel of the Lord appeared unto Adam, saying: Why dost thou offer sacrifices unto the Lord? And Adam said unto him: I know not, save the Lord commanded me.
And the angel spake, saying: This thing is a similitude of the sacrifice of the Only Begotten of the Father, which is full of grace and truth.
    Moses 5:6-7

service

  • The taller a bamboo grows, the lower it bends.

  • The longer I live the more I am convinced that the one thing worth living and dying for is the privilege of making someone more happy and more useful. No man who ever does anyting to lift his fellows ever makes a sacrifice.
    --- Booker T. Washington

  • Is it so small a thing to have enjoyed the sun, to have livid light in the spring, to have loved, to have thought, to have done?
    --- Mathew Arnold

  • In the pursuit of happiness half the world is on the wrong scent. Thy think it consistes in having and getting, and in being served by others. Happiness is really found in giving and in serving others.
    --- Henry Drummond

  • Good Works is like wetting your pants: Everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.

  • The light of the world is Jesus Christ. His birth is Heavenly Father’s gift to us. What of our gift to him? May we humbly offer genuine love and sincere concern. May our alms be given in secret.

  • The sure way to peace and happiness in this life and in the life hereafter is to serve the Lord today and everyday.

  • To serve others willingly and unselfishly should be one of our greatest virtures. It is not even a matter of choice. It is an obligation, a sacred command... Therefore, let us serve one another with brotherly love, never tiring of the demands upon us, being patient and persevering and generous.
--- Ezra Taft Benson New Era Sept. 1979, p.44

  • To find a real happiness, we must seek for it in a focus outside ourselves. No one has learned the meaning of living until he has surrendered his ego to the service of his fellowmen. Service to others akin to duty, the fulfillment of which brings true joy.
    --- Thomas S Monson
    Ensign, May 1990, p.93

  • Service is not something we endure on this earth so we can earn the right to live in the celestial kingdom. Service is the very fiber of which an exalted life in the celestial kingdom is made.
    --- Marion G Romney
    Conference Report, Oct 1982, p. 135

  • And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye hve done it unto me.
