St. Tikhon, Confessor and Patriarch of Moscow

St. Tikhon was sent as Archbishop of North America while St. Raphael was already an Archimandrite in New York. St. Raphael was among those to greet their new Archbishop on American soil. St. Tikhon performed the consecration of St. Raphael to the rank of bishop, making St. Raphael the first bishop consecrated on American soil. St. Tikhon had a vision to have both a Serbian and a Syrian vicar bishop in America, along with his Russian vicar; he was never able to consecrate a Serbian Bishop.

Icon of St. Tikhon as Patriarch: the white cowl and green mantiya designate the office of Patriarch of Moscow in the Russian Church. Having a white headpiece is typical of metropolitans and the patriarch; the patriarch's headpiece is also a white version of what Russian monks of the Great Schema wear.
