Eagles Mere Gathering

Sponsored by: ShadowLore & Grave Promotions

The Gatherings are held twice a year in the spring and fall at The Lodge in Eagles Mere. A rustic log cabin that with its 9 bedrooms is capable of handling 40 + people. We host these gatherings so all who have spoken online can finally meet one another. So many of us are lost and so very sure that they are the only ones to feel as they do. Meeting others like ourselves helps us to know that we are not alone and that there are others out there willing to share their knowledge. Hosting these gatherings is just one way that ShadowLore reaches out to all who are searching for friendship and support.

The lodge is a three story log cabin built in 1957. It is situated on the orginal Peale Family Homestead founded in 1853.

The inside of the lodge is as striking as the outside. There are 9 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 half baths, a fully equiped kitchen, game room and numerous sitting rooms. There is also a hot tub that will seat 8 comfortably.

The south eastern side of the lodge is made up mostly of picture windows on all three floors and the view from every window is outstanding.

This stone fireplace with Cast Iron insertkeeps the second floor rooms toasty even on the coldest days.

Here is a large sitting room where you can chat with friends or curl up with a good book.

Just to the left of the living room is the Tv Room that can be made private by a sliding door. Here you will find a Television with cable and a VCR.

A room off to the left on the second floor holds a Hot Tub that will seat 8 to 10 comfortably.

Four of the 9 bedrooms are on the second floor. The one pictured here has 2 twin beds and a set of bunk beds. All 9 bedrooms are dormitory style with more than one person to a room and complete with bed linens and blankets.

Sitting slightly below ground level, the first floor is made up of the kitchen and dinning area.

Just off the dinning room, is the Game Room complete with a pool table and dart board. In this picture you can see Lord Mordred enjoying a smoke while he comtemplates a difficult shot.

This is the oldest building in existence at Eagles Mere. It was the residence of Lewis Smith, George Lewis's secretary and overseer.

Taking the famous Laurel path you will see rhododendron and laurel that have existed long before Lewis ever envisioned his glassworks.

This wooden footbridge arches over the water at the entrance of the Outlet Pond where during the summer and fall months magnificent water lilies cover the water.

If you are walking along the north side of the lake you will come across the Crestmont Inn's boat launch and gazebo, where you are welcome to sit and watch the world go by.

This view of the lake was taken from Lovers Rock wher the legendary history of Eagles Mere says the bride of a young bookeeper was drowned by the capsizing of a sailboat many years ago. The Legend says that after the drowning, he kept a lonely vigil there until after midnight when seeing the misty form of his wife rising from the lake he plunged in and went to a watery grave by her side.

It is said that those who choose to watch from this rock until midnight can see two misty forms gliding across the water, hand in hand.

The Laurel Path follows the edge of the water most of the way around the lake. It's along here you will find a dense growth of hemlock, beech and chestnut, their twisted roots woven into the path and great rocks covered with laurel reaching to and hanging over the water's edge.

Eagles Mere Lake which has virtually no inflow from surface streams, receives its water from thousands of springs that bubble up from the lake's floor. It has been rumored that the lake is bottomless but measurements taken in the middle, opposite Lover's Rock put the greatest depth at 53 feet. The water of Eagles Mere has a peculiar "greenish tint" of old ocean, but it is so clear and free from sediment of any kind that it's sandy bottom is clearly visible in many spots.

There is a magic at Eagles Mere. I can't explain it. It's something that must be felt, sensed or experienced and only then can you fully understand the allure. Eagles Mere has been labeled "The Town Time Forgot" and it is easy to accept this concept. A town that shomehow is frozen in time....A turn of the century mystery that offers you the rare opportunity to escape from society's pressures and go back to a time where the pace of life was less stressful. Leave your burdens behind and Come Join us for a weekend you will not soon forget.........
