Jean-Sébastien Aubin was drafted 76th overall in the 1995 Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He joined the NHL ranks in 1998-99 and played his first 17 games with the Penguins that year. He posted a 4-3-6 record with a 2.22 goals-against average and two shutouts. In 1999-2000, Jean-Sébastien went 23-21-3 in 51 games and posted a 2.58 GAA with two shutouts. He won Player of the Week honours on February 20. In 2000-01, he shared goaltending duties with Garth Snow and, later in the season and in the playoffs, Johan Hedberg. He went 20-14-1 in 36 regular-season games and posted a 3.13 GAA. In the playoffs, he played in one game as the team reached the Eastern Conference finals before losing to the Devils.
