SEPTA PROPOSED SERVICE CUTS AND FARE INCREASES
This is a listing - in layman's terms - of the major fare changes SEPTA is proposing for the next fiscal year. Public hearings will be held in each of the 5 counties where SEPTA operates:
- Thursday, 14 October: Delaware County Government Center, County Council Meeting Room, 1st Floor, 201 W Front St, Media (2:00pm and 6:00pm)
- Friday, 15 October: Bucks County Courthouse, Main & Court Sts, Doylestown (3:00pm and 6:00pm)
- Monday, 18 October: West Chester Municipal Building, Room 240, 401 E Gay St, West Chester (3:00pm and 6:00pm)
- Tuesday, 19 October: Philadelphia Loews Hotel, Regency Ballroom, 1200 Market St, Philadelphia (11:00am and 5:00pm; speakers for the evening session must register by 6:00pm)
- Thursday, 21 October: Pa. DEP Building, 2 E. Main St, Norristown (2:00pm and 6:00pm)
The rates for tokens, 10-trip Regional Rail tickets, and DayPasses would take effect on or about January 1, 2005 at 12:01am. The rates for weekly passes will take effect on shortly thereafter.
FARE INCREASES
TRANSIT DIVISION
- The base fare will increase from $2.00 to $2.50.
- The suburban zone charge will remain increase from $.50 to $.75; disabled passengers would pay 35 cents per zone during off peak hours.
- The price of a transfer will increase from 60 cents to 75 cents; disabled passengers will now pay 35 cents for a transfer during off peak hours instead of 30 cents.
- The price of a 1 Day Pass will increase from $5.50 to $6.50.
- The cost of tokens will increase from $1.30 to $1.70; the minimum number of tokens to be purchased will remain at 2.
- The cost of a Weekly TransPass will increase from $18.75 to $23.25.
- The cost of a Monthly TransPass will increase from $70.00 to $85.00.
- The cost of a Cross County (Suburban) pass will increase from $85.00 to $106.00.
- The fares for up to two children on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays would increase from $.75 to $1.00.

- NOTE: Off-peak fares will no longer apply; all fares collected will be charged at the peak hour rate, excluding disabled and senior citizen fares.
- Travel within one or two zones on a single line, however not to/from/via Center City Philadelphia (ie. Zone 5/Thorndale to Zone 4/Paoli) will increase from $2.50 to $2.75.
- Travel within three to six zones on a single line, however not to/from/via Center City Philadelphia (ie. Zone 5/Thorndale to Zone 2/Overbrook) will increase from $3.00 to $3.50.
- The IM-1 Intermediate Monthly pass between stations within 1 or 2 zones on a single line (ie. Zone 5/Thorndale to Zone 4/Paoli) will increase from $60.00 to $70.00.
- The round trip fare between Center City Philadelphia and Trenton will increase from $13.50 to $16.50.
- The round trip fare for travel between 30 St Station, Suburban Station, and Market East Station inclusive will increase from $3.50 to $5.50 (special round trip fare eliminated; $2.75 one-way fare introduced).
SERVICE ADJUSTMENTS
- All Saturday, Sunday, and Holiday service would be "suspended".
- Service on all modes would be reduced by 20 percent across the board; approximately 145 Regional Rail trains would be eliminated through consolidating peak express trains and eliminating low ridership trains during midday and evening hours.
- ROUTE 127: The fare zones between the Oxford Valley Mall in Middletown Twp, Bucks County, and the Trenton Rail Station in Mercer County, New Jersey would be adjusted. The fare zone between Trenton and Morrisville would be extended to Trenton Rd/Tyburn Rd in the Fairless Hills district of Falls Twp, Bucks County.
