Bushy-crested Hornbill (Anorrhinus galeritus).
Size 89 cm (35 in.). It is overall
blackish in plumage with a not so obvious drooping
crest. Bare skin around eye and patch at base of bill white. Tip of tail
black. The range of the Bushy-crested Hornbill is from Myanmar through the
Malay Peninsula to Sumatra and Borneo. It is resident from low elevations up
to 1200 m, south to Johore in forests. It is highly gregarious but shy and
usually seen in groups of up to 15. I say 6 in the encounter.
It is a noisy bird and its voice is a series of high-pitched squealing
laughs uttered while foraging for food.
