ACKERSON, HINSDALE OFFICIAL, TEACHER A memorial service for Charles F. Ackerson, who served on both the Hinsdale Town Board and Hinsdale Central School Board, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, 212 Laurens St. Ackerson, 84, died Wednesday (April 10, 1996) in his Olean home after a brief illness. Born in Niagara Falls, he was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and the Forestry College at Syracuse University and received a mathematics teaching certificate from St. Bonaventure University. He taught math at Olean High School and at Hinsdale Central School from 1961 until 1972, when he retired. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Baker. He was a 50-year member of First Presbyterian Church, was its corporation president and treasurer and served as an elder and a member of the property committee. He was a 27-year member of Olean Post 530, American Legion, and the Navy Destroyer Escort Association. He was a member of the Olean Lions Club for more than 40 years and a member of the International Association of Lions Clubs, the State College of Environmental Science and Forestry Alumni Association and the New York State Teachers Association and was a founding member of the Lyme Disease Support Group. He served on the Hinsdale Town Board from 1974 until 1985 and also had been a member of the Hinsdale Central School Board. He was owner and operator of Ackerson Surveying Co. for many years. Survivors include his wife, the former Jean L.
