Fun in Comic Book Land

Today, I went to see Professor Craig Fisher’s lecture. He talked about the cartoonist Eddie Campbell. The main lecture was about comics. Campbell was the main focus of the talk. He is an interesting man. Bacchus is one of his famous comics, but Craig does not like it. Another one of Campbell’s famous comics is called From Hell. Campbell seems to be a creative man. He is one of those people I would love to meet before I die. One of the things that Campbell does is he reads comics out of order and reassembles the timeline differently in his head. He pretty much breaks tradition with writing and does things his own way. I want to be that type of writer and I already working on that. Campbell seems to use many interesting symbols in his comics. Teeth are always a symbol of death and mortality in his comics. He is scared of death because of it. Campbell seems to be obsessed with teeth because of it. Bricks are also a symbol in his comics. Though I do not remember what for, they are a good thing to him. Overall, Campbell is an interesting guy.

Craig messed up on the title of the lecture. It was supposed to be called “Ouch!” not “Opps!” Other than that, the lecture went off with a hitch. He was so popular that they had to bring in more chairs because so many people showed up. I had a great time at this one. I learned so much about comics. I learned that my beloved manga is different from Western style comics in structure. Craig read and talked to the audience. He made the whole lecture pretty entertaining. This is the best one that I had been to all semester.
