Maiden Marie
La Reve is a beautiful painting. It is of Picasso’s twenty-two year old mistress, Marie-Thérèse Walter. Words cannot begin to describe its beauty. The elements come together perfectly. The one thing that makes the painting so beautiful is the color. Picasso out does himself on this painting compared to his other works. The color is rich with Picasso’s love for Marie. Even though Marie herself is looking white in the painting, one can tell it was painted with deep amore.
Picasso uses color in La Reve in a powerful way. The colors play with each other in peace. He uses the colors to not only to show his love for Marie to the world, but the beauty of France. The bold red chair screams Paris all over. Culture, love, and sweet emotions are all in the colors. They all show Picasso deep, true, and immortal love for the beautiful Marie-Thérèse Walter.
