Macbeth Movie
Upon
see the movie Macbeth, I have a few things to say. The first thing that
comes
to me about the movie is that it looks like low budget film. The
setting was a
canyon and a cave. When I read the play, I actually envisioned a lovely
palace
like in Shakespeare’s time where the cave scenes were. The whole set,
costumes,
and props looked like they cost $10.99.
Second
thought I have is the movie looked dubbed. One point where it looked
dubbed
where Malcolm was talking near the end and at some points where Macbeth
was
talking looked dubbed. I don’t know what it is but dubbed don’t sit
well with
me. I don’t think Macbeth was dubbed but it sure looked like it.
Third,
I think Orson Welles likes New York a little too much because there
were too
many Statue of Liberty poses in Macbeth. For instance, Macbeth (Who is
Welles
himself) looked like the famous statue when he was going down to fight
Malcolm
and Macduff. I have nothing against the pose but it looked rather
annoying.
Fourth,
Welles like other directors changed the movie. For example, he added a
holy man
to the cast. Then Welles showed how Lady Macbeth died by jumping off of
a
cliff. I expected her to die by stabbing herself. Finally, Welles mixed
the
scenes and acts together in a strange way. One point showed Lady
Macbeth
sleepwalking after the soldiers plan their attack on the tyrant.
Finally, I think Lady Macbeth (Played by Jeanette Nolan) couldn’t act. The sleepwalking part was her worst part.
