What
brings to mind when I say, apocalypse? Chaos and destruction, right?
That is
the image that William Butler Yeats paints in his poem, “The Second
Coming”.
This is the book of Revelation in twenty-two lines. The painting on pg.
994 adds
to the poem’s effect on the reader. There is the typical talk of chaos,
lack of
political order, blood, and the loss of innocence. (Fun, fun, fun!)
Yeats must
have pulled out inspiration from the Bible to write this dark poem. He
has Anne
Rice beat by a hair.
