With a determined spirit, she was not only able to survive her rape, but overcome its aftermath. I would think it would be difficult enough to share the news of a rape with those closest to you, but to tell the world is both inspirational and brave! Sebold was one of the lucky ones and I'm lucky to have the opportunity to read her books. She has the ability to tell stories in such a way that you feel you are present, watching from above.
