-- Bible study at the men's breakfast, Shelter Cove, by Pastor David Seifert:
Blessing Your Children:
1) Touch, come close, loving touch, communicate God's personal touch and love
2) Message: speak God's word, say the blessing aloud, choose a spirit-led message, use carefully spoken words (Genesis 27:27)
3) Impart value: give words of value, encouragement
4) Future: vision, hope, look forward to ..... , Jewish families meet on Friday, where the father gives the blessing (Hebrews 11:20, Genesis 49:28)
5) Commitment: personally commit to the Lord (children), work to help the children develop, strive ....
* When the blessings are imparted inappropriately, the blessings turn into cursings ....
* The Bible tells us to bless those who persecute us
* Bless means to call down God's power

-- Read from Psalm, chapter 143; Our Daily Bread, "Who Am I?" Psalm 8.
Psalm
143, 1) O Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for
mercy; in
your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief. 6) I spread out
my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. 7) Answer
me quickly, O Lord; my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me or I
will be like those who go down to the pit. 8) Let the morning bring me
word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me
the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. 9) Rescue me from my
enemies, O Lord, for I hide myself in you. 10) Teach me to do your
will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.
11) For your name's sake, O Lord, preserve my life; in your
righteousness, bring me out of trouble.

-- Our Daily Bread, "Silent Witness." Philippians 1:21-27.
Thursday,
January 11, 2007--
Our Daily Bread, "How To Be Happy." Ten Rules for Happier Living: 1)
Give something away, 2) Do a kindness, 3) Give thanks always, 4) Work
with vim and vigor, 5) Visit the elderly and learn from their
experience, 6) Look intently into the face of a baby and marvel, 7)
Laugh often -- it's life's lubricant, 8) Pray to know God's way, 9)
Plan as though you will live forever -- you will, 10) Live as though
today is your last day on earth.
Reflections . . . . .
As I've journeyed through life for nearly half a century, I've learned
that the world's rules for happiness only lead to sorrow, pain,
suffering, and ultimate loss. God's rules are true and lead to peace
and happiness that will last, and fulfil our heart's desires.

Our Daily Bread, "Help!" Psalm 46:1, "God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble." At Shelter Cove for Celebrate
Recovery, I was chatting with Phil. He mentioned the Daily Bread from
yesterday, "How To Be Happy," and thought the one about laughter,
life's lubricant, was interesting.
Reflections . . . . .
Scripture
for today: Proverbs
4:23,
"Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."
Psalm
1:2,
"But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates
day and night."
Psalm
143:1,
"Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in your faithfulness
and righteousness come to my relief.
Psalm 46:1,
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."
Isaiah 33:2,
"O Lord, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress."
Tuesday,
January 23, 2007-- Here is a poem from Our Daily Bread:
Living for Jesus a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me. -- Chisholm

-- How many of us would presume to declare, "Well, I'm sober and I'm
happy. What more can I want, or do? I'm fine the way I am." We know
that the price of such self-satisfaction is an inevitable backslide,
punctuated at some point by a very rude awakening. We have to grow or
else deteriorate. For us, the status quo can only be for today, never
for tomorrow. Change we must; we cannot stand still. (As Bill Sees It)
