Nantucket Marine Mammal Conservation Program

Nantucket Marine Mammal Conservation Program is a non-profit educational outreach and fundraising organization dedicated to increasing awareness of the world's oceans and focused on cetaceans (whales and dolphins) and pinnipeds (seals) -
the marine mammals most commonly found in New England waters.

NMMCP was founded in 1977 on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts by Jean Rioux. Since that time, Ms Rioux has sustained the program through her passion and commitment to marine mammals. She still serves as Director Emeritus and is assisted by Scott Leonard, Director of Operations and Michelle Perkins, Education Co-ordinator. Valerie Leonard is our delegate in Washington DC.

The program reaches out to the public through the local media and nationally with the 'Whales-Need-US' Coilition. We regularly take part in various island events, providing information, outlining opportunities for further education and encouraging involvement and action from the public. NMMCP raises funds through donations for the specific marine mammal causes we support.

Check our 'Links We Like' for more information on 'Whales-Need-US' and other non-profits working for marine mammals.
