"RED HAT TILT"

Her blue stare, from under her red Fedora hat, reflects white lightning and I feel her thunder -- Alex Nodopaka image (c) anthony leahy
My mouth is full of things I doubt a fool as I am can get out without sounding like I haven't had a glass of water in days or weeks or years or more. But four of the things are "I ...uh...adore you," my lovely aphrodisiac. -- John Tate
My Mistake

For What?s
by Adam Gaucher

This is where I'll lose it:
Allow the clevers to dissect my
being and become the fading shadow
of my former self. No longer will
negative six be a pleasure to me.
I will find the clothes that'll bring
the most notice, and I'll wear them.

I'll believe it's seventy three. I'll
be waiting for the fifth album, still.
I'll tell stories for the next generation
of horrible poets to admire. They'll be
gathered for a fix of decrepit senile
genius, but I'll be too busy taking
pictures of the seventh world war.

I'll smoke too much and drink not
enough. I'll settle for cinnamon when
there isn't any honey. My books will
rape me, and convince me that I
wasn't worth a damn. And I'll finally
accept my belief that four is the
perfect number of stanzas in a poem.
