I first heard his famous poem, "The Cremation of Sam Magee" when I was 10 years old. That year, my family and I were driving to, and from, the Yukon. After that trip, I fell in love with the Yukon, and Robert Service poetry. The next year, for the music festival, I performed that poem and tied for second place with a boy who was performing, "The Shooting of Dan McGrew". The year after that, I recited another poem by Robert Service, "The Land of the Sourdough", and tied for first. And now, my love of Robert Service poetry gave me the idea to make his writing the subject of this homepage assignment I have to do for school.
