"Jessie. Get up. Time to go to school." I heard my Mom yell up the stairs.
It was the first day of high-school. I dreaded this day, being a freshmen and all. All the seniors will pick on us.
I hate school. I never get good grades. They are always bad. Mom gets on me all the time, cuz my grades are bad. I usually get C's, D's, and one f. I hardly ever get any A's or B's.
I try as hard as I can. I do all my work; I listen in class; I turn in all the homework, but I always get a bad grade.
Last year, in L/A, we were supposed to write a story. I was supposed to write a story about a boy who had been abused, and mistreated. The minimum pages, counting front as one, back as two, was five.
The final story was ten pages long. I got a F on it. The teacher said there were too many run-ons. He said the story did not follow a plot. There was not a problem.
I ain't a good writer. I ain't good at math either. I can't even do this problem, 10x5+d-2=53. I just don't get it. That's the class were I usually get the F in.
"Jessie, get your butt down here now. You're gonna be late," I heard my Mom yell.
"I'm coming Mom." I yelled back, getting up from bed. I got dressed, brushed my teeth and did my hair in a messy bun.
As I stepped into the kitchen, the phone rang. "I'll get it Mom."
"Hello." I said into the receiver.
"Heya, Jessie. Ready for school," Kensis said. "If you want, I'll have my Mom pick you up."
"I dread school. I don't wanna go." I said sitting down at the table. "I gotta go. I'll call ya back. Lata."
"Lata." Kensis said. I heard a click as I hung up the phone.
"If you don't get good grades, I am getting you a tutor." My Mom said, sitting down at the table.
"You know I try Mom. I try and try, but I just ain't good at doin' anything at school. My best subject is Choir." I said, sarcastically.
"I know you can sing, hun. But you need to try harder in all your other classes."
"Mom, I try as hard as I can. I do all my work, turn in all of it on time. I just never can get a good grade." I practically yelled at her.
"Just work extra hard this year. It's your first year of high-school..."
"Bye. I'll see you when I get home." I interrupted her, ran out the door, slamming it behind me.
I walked to school, steaming mad. I know this is not gonna be a good year at school. I only have one real good friend. I don't get good grades. I don't even have a boyfriend. I've never even had a boyfriend.
I got to school. I found my locker, I-225. I turned the lock to my numbers and opened. I put my stuff in it. I got my stuff for first hour, math.
As I shut my locker, a really cute blond boy opened his. I had never seen him before.
"Hey. Ya new here?" I asked the mystery blond boy. spinning the lock on my locker.
"Ya. I've lived here for a while, home-schooled. I decided I needed to go to a regular school to socialize. I only have one friend, but he moved to Michigan over the summer," he said, getting books from his lock.
"Cool. Bye the way, my names Jessie. What's yours?" I asked as we started walking towards the cafeteria.
"My names Aaron. You got a very nice name." He said, "What's you first hour?"
"Oh. I dread my first hour. Math. I hate math."
"Same. But I love math. You wanna see mine?" He asked, handing his schedule to me.
"Sure. Here's mine."
His schedule looked like this:
It was close to mine, all but AAA and last hour. I had French. For AAA, I had Mrs. Young. "You know what? I went here when I was younger. K-3rd grade. Then I went into home-schooling." Aaron said as the bell rang.
"I moved here in sixth grade. I only have one real good friend." I said.
"What about me. I'm your friend, aren't I." He asked, the second bell ringing.
"I guess. We better get to class, before we're late." I said heading up the stairs to AAA.
I didn't know that much 'bout Aaron, but he seemed pretty cool. I'll even admit, he seemed pretty cooler than Kensis.
I entered AAA. Miss Popular was in it. Oh great.
I seen Kensis sitting down in the back row and sat down. At least she was in my AAA. "Where were you this morning. I called your house, but your Mom said you left. When I got here at school, I couldn't find you either. What happened?" Kensis said, writing something down. Who knows what she was writing, knowing her, it could be anything.
"I was in the cafeteria talking to this new kid. He just got here. He said he went to school here but dropped out and went into home-schooling after third grade. He's really cute to. He has blond hair, brown eyes, and he's really tall." I said, tucking a piece of my long auburn hair behind my ear.
"How'd ya meet him? And what's his name, address, and phone?" Kensis asked, looking like she was about to attack me. She is just crazy for boys that has blond hair, brown eyes, or is really tall. Aaron fit that category perfect.
"His locker's right beside mine. His name's Aaron. He let me see his schedule, and he has every class with me, accept for AAA. On the schedule, I read his name and that stuff. His name's Aaron C. Carter. It said that his address and phone was private. Do ya know 'im?" I asked, wonderin' why she wanted to know all this info.
"Ya I remember him. He was really popular then. In third grade, he was in the talent show. He sung a song, I think it was called Crush On You or somethin' like dat. He sung it really good, too. He's in choir too, ain't he?" She asked. I can't believe that. Him, being popular. Hope Corine don't try to steal him. I know her, she will try.
I went on to Math. I met up with Aaron at the math room. We went around every where at school together, except the bathroom, cuz he's a boy, and I'm a girl. That would be silly to go there with each other.
Aaron did really well in all of the classes, being that he just moved here. He said that although he was in advanced math, he wanted to be with the rest of the 9th grade.
In choir, we started a new song. She was the choir teacher in Middle School, so we did not have to go over the rules or anything. The name of it was "Keep Believing". Mrs. Young started to teach the first verse, when Aaron raised his hand.
"Yes." Mrs. Young asked. She stopped playing the piano.
"I know this song already. Can I sing it to the rest of the class?" Aaron asked. I wonder how he knew it already.
"Yes, you certaintly may," Mrs. Young started playing the song. Aaron stood up and started singing the song. We had barely even looked at the words to our music, and he didn't even use his music. Odd.
"When I look into your sad eyes
It makes me feel for you
'Cause I don't see the light
That was always shining through
Someone broke your heart
And now it's easy to give up
I'm tellin you, It's not the end
It's not the end of time
Keep believing baby
'Cause everything happens for a reson
And though tonight tears fill your eyes
Don't stop dreaming girl
I'll be right here to lean on
Your gonna make through
I wanna see you
Keep believing" Aaron sung that much when Mrs. Young stopped playing, but Aaron continued to sing.
"Aaron, that's your name, isn't it?" Mrs. Young said, standing up when the song was done, and the applause ended.
"Yes, it is." Aaron replied, sitting back down.
"You've sung this before haven't you, maybe at your old school or something?" Mrs. Young asked, sitting back down.
"I have sung it before, but not at my old school. this is the only school I have went to. I came here from home-schooling." Aaron said, looking confused.
"Well, since we just started this song, and you volonteered, by your self, to sing this, and you did that good, I'd like you to sing that at the concert as a solo. Do you think you could do that." Mrs. Young asked.
"Yeah, I'd love to. When's the concert?"
"It's on October 26."
The rest of the class went smoothly. We started on a different song, and learnt most of it.
Luch was after choir. We found a table big enough for three people. it actually was for four people, but that was the smallest table we could find.
Corine came up to us at luch and asked Aaron to sit with her 'cause he'd enjoy it better than sitting with the unpopular people by saying we were boring, snobby, and odd. She was playin' with his hair, messing it all up. Aaron simply replied by saying that we were nice people. We weren't boring, snobby, and odd. We were fun to be around. He also said he did not want to sit with her because he did not know her as well as he knew us. He said to stop playin with his hair. He did not like it.
She made a huff, and stalked off, obviously mad. "Good goin' Aaron. She's the snob. She has to get what she wants, or she gets mad and does everything she can to get what she wants. And she obviously wants you. We won't let her, will we?" Kensis said, hi fiveing all of us.
"That's right. I remember her from elementary school. I can't believe she was my best friend. No wonder she's popular." Aaron said, making a funny face which made us all laugh.
I remeber when I was a lot younger. It was when I found out that my mom was getting marriend again. She had divorced my real dad before I was one. I was upset to know that she was getting married. I made a list of the way I wanted my husband to be when I grow up, so I can now it's "him".
I mentioned this to Kensis. She had it memorized by now. "Numba 1: Must be tall. Numba 2: Must have brown eyes. Numba 3: Must be a blond. Numba 4: Must know how to take care of me when I'm down. Numba 5: Must love me. Numba 6: Must know how to cook, clean and all dat stuff." Kensis recited.
"Hey. I fit all those accept two of em. I'm tall, have brown eyes, blond hair, I know how to cook and clean and all dat stuff." Aaron said, making an odd look on his face. We all laughed again at that thought.
"Hey. You guys wanna go to the mall after school?" Aaron asked. "I need some new shoes. I can have my mom drive us?"
"I dunno. So far, I have enough homwork as it is and we've only had four classes. But I'll try," Kensis stood up to put up her tray.
"I think I'll be able to make it. If I can't I'll call you, but I'll need your phone number, so I can do that." I answered. I hadn't touched a thing on my plate. I was havin to much fun talkin' to Aaron.
The rest of the day went smoothly. At the end of the day, I started out of the building. Aaron caught up with me. "Heya....
