As she heard her alarm go off Kayla moaned and hit the snooze but, rolling over as she heard Grace getting up and getting in the shower.

As she saw Grace exiting the bathroom she told her, “We’re going to the clinic at nine.”

“Fine,” Grace sighed, she was nervous. She was still sore form what Tom had done to her and didn’t want to be poked and prodded. It just didn’t sounds appealing.

“If you want we can got o school after, if not we can go out, I’ll take you to lunch, my treat, ok?” She offered.

“Thanks Kay, I appreciate you sticking by me like this.”

“Hey, if I only did it because I care, and don’t you ever forget it, got it?”

Grace laughed, “Got it.”

Soon the girls had showered and eaten their breakfast and were on their way to the clinic at the local hospital. “You ready?” Kayla asked Grace as she turned off her car.

“As ready as I’ll ever be, lets just get this over with,” She replied, letting out a loud sigh as she got out of the car.

Grace could feel her stomach flipping as the smell of the hospital invaded her nostrils. It was a nauseating smell.

“Come on,” Kayla pulled her by the arm.

The girls had to wait for close to an hour before they were seen by a nurse and brought to a room. After Grace had changed into one of the paper gowns the girls sat around talking for another half an hour before they doctor came in to do a rape examination.

“Alright, Ms. Thomas, we have the results of your test.” The doctor started once Grace had dressed herself again. “It is obvious that there has been forceful entry and there were small traces of semen. However, I’m not sure how well we will b able to match it because you had waited so long to come in. I promise you that we will do our best to find a match.”

“Is there anyway to make it easier for you to match it?” Kayla asked form her position in the chair next to the table where Grace sat.

“The only thing that would make it really easy would be to give us the exact name of the perpetrator or get him to come in so we could accurately match it.” The doctor explained.

“Ok, thank you, Doctor, can I leave now?” Grace asked, anxious to get out of the hospital.

“Yes, but I would still like you to come back for that pregnancy test in three weeks ok?”

“I’ll see if I can find time, thank you for everything, bye.” Grace said as she and Kayla exited the hospital and returned to school. All she wanted to do was put everything behind her, forget it all and resume a normal life, though right now that seemed impossible.

”Gracie!” Chris yelled, seeing his friend down the hall.

“Hey sexy,” She laughed, poking him in the stomach.

“You know it,” He told her cockily. “What you thinking coming in late? We only got one more day left!” Chris questioned.

“I know, I overslept and decided to treat myself to breakfast since I was late anyways, is that alright with you?”

“No, why didn’t you take me with you?” He pretended to pout.

“Oh shut up, next time you can come alright?”

“YAY!” Chris jumped for joy.

“Alright, now shut up and go to class, don’t want to start losing credits NOW do you?”

Chris shook his head no as he walked away from Grace towards his next period class as she continued on her way.

The day went by fast for Grace. She walked out to her car after hearing the final bell sound, she knew she had to go back to her house and get the rest of her stuff but she couldn’t do it when Tom was home.

Finally, she decided she would drive around the block and see if his truck was in the driveway.

As Grace drove down the familiar street she studied each house as she had done many times before. Looking at each and every flower and bush in everyone’s yard, picking up on everything she saw. As she approached the house she used to live in she felt her stomach tighten with nerves. She noticed his truck wasn’t there and decided to go in and out as fast as possible.

As Grace turned the key the familiar smell of old alcohol hit her and she almost gagged. She walked up the stairs she had been going up and down since she had learned to crawl. She walked down the hallway where she saw happy photos of her and her mom, before the days she met Tom and he had begun hurting them. She opened the door to her room and surprisingly found it exactly the way she had left it.

Grace opened her closet and removed her suitcase and another duffel bag and began to fill them with her belongings. First, she emptied her closet of all it’s contents, sighing at its emptiness once she was done. Next, she opened all her drawers, stuffing her clothes into her duffel bag, sighing with relief once that was done. She went through her nightstand. Taking out her old journals, portable CD player and other odds and end she found. She carefully put them in the bag. After the drawers were empty she began to take all the pictures she had on her bureau and her bedside table and put the in the suitcase she had taken out. As Grace was zipping up her suitcase she heard the slamming of a car door. It was him.

She thought she had been successful, missed him. She wasn’t that lucky. Just as she was about to leave he had to show up. Grace knew she had to be brave so she picked up her bags and headed out of her room. She turned around and looked once more at the room she had grown up in. It was empty now. No posters on the walls, no pictures of her and friends adorning the furniture. It was empty of her.

“Bitch! What are you doing here?!? She heard his voice yell out as she closed the door.

“I’m getting my things, but I’m leaving now, tell mom I said I’ll call when I get to Washington, goodbye.” Grace tried to walk by without him touching her but she wasn’t successful. She shivered as she felt his hand grasp her arm.

“What the matter? Scared?” He taunted her.

“No, please let go of me.” She asked him calmly.

“I hope you don’t really think you’re gonna get away that easy,” he slurred in his drunken manner.

“Actually I am, goodbye Tom, have a nice life.” Grace twisted her arm away from him and was about to open the front door when she felt a heavy pain in the back of her head. As she felt the pain surge through her she saw the door and longed for it to be open and her to be walking out, instead all she saw was black.

“That’ll teach you,” Tom slurred, opening the door and hitting Grace with it as he left again.

Hours later Grace opened her eyes, searching for something familiar tot ell her where she was. Her eyes landed on a photo of herself, her mother, and Tom. She groaned in pain a she picked herself up off the floor. Her head was pounding as she gathered her bags up once again, and with one final look, walked out.

Sorry it’s so short but once I wrote that final line I realized it was the prefect place to stop it! :-D
