10 Questions for the Dalai Lama
Documentary Unrated. Filmmaker Rick Ray examines some of the fundamental questions of our time by weaving together observations from his own journeys throughout India and the Middle East, and the wisdom of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Contains rare historical footage as well as footage supplied by individuals who at great personal risk, filmed with hidden cameras within Tibet. Regardless of what your religious beliefs might be Rick Ray has made a film that touches not on the religious side but on many other sides as well including politics. Rick took the job of traveling to India and Tibet with the promise he would be able to meet the Dalai Lama but after arriving he soon found out that he was on his own as far as getting a interview but with some luck he managed to get a sit-down with the great Dalai and would be able to ask 10 questions. What made this film so remarkable was not only the interview but all the preparation before it, Rick would travel across India and Tibet to learn the way of Buddhism and to get caught up on the 14th Dalai Lama's life story...a simple Monk who grew to live a life one can only imagine. The shots around India and Tibet are both breath-taking and heart-breaking as you get a first hand look at just how many people are starving there. When the Time comes for Rick to have his interview we get to meet a man with believes in peace and harmony and yet has to hide out in exile after the loss of his country to the communist Chinese. I could not help but think that the Dalai Lama's ideas and dreams are ones that we may never see come true, as we look on the news or pick up a paper each day war rages on there's no end in sight or any sign of peace any time soon. This is a remarkable journey that leads to some brilliant and universal questions that are answered by a man with wisdom beyond his own years. But what I found most amazing was not the Dalai Lama but the man behind the name, this is not only a man that has strong belief's but you also get a first hand look at a really fun guy that loves to laugh and tinker with electronics and even falls asleep during events honoring him. Rick Ray has not only made a film about the historical and present Dalai Lama but he's made a a film that is an amazing journey that captures not only the land but the people in both India and Tibet and their struggle with everyday life as well as giving us a history lesson of a great leader that only wants one thing...peace, a true masterpiece.
