Bad Blood

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Mystery/Thriller NR. A prominent and respected family inherits a beautiful home in the country, nestled deep inside a tiny village. Despite protests from his wife and children who have grown accustomed to the finer things in life and believe the house should be sold for profit, the father decides to uproot everyone and move to the new house. Almost immediately the small group learns that the village is overshadowed by superstition, religion and mysterious folklore. Soon strange events begin occurring and family is forced to consider an alarming rumor running rampant throughout the village: by inheriting the house, they have also inherited a dark and menacing curse. The latest release from Tartan Video is a film that is hard to put into any one genre, is it horror when there really is no sign of the genre in the film? That's why I choose to cal it a Mystery/Thriller so do not mislead by it's box-art which suggests more along the lines of a ghost horror film in the tradition of those seen in Asian Cinema. Set in rural Portugal, the film tells the tell of local folk tales that the locals in this small village are more than happy to share with it's newest residents. The film starts off slow, building it's characters and the story behind the village, slowly drawing you in. The camera work is fantastic and as an important part of creating an atmosphere so thick you can cut it with a knife. That's what made this film so damn good, a film that doesn't need blood or violence to create a paranoid and chilling feeling that runs down your spine. The cast was fantastic, each actor owned their part and made you not only believe in them but also care about them. I have to give a big thanks to both Frederico Serra and Tiago Guedes for making a film that goes out of the way to be something different in a very good way. If your looking for a blood and guts film look elsewhere but if you want a film that grabs you from it's opening frames and not only captivates but also makes it's audience think then this is a movie for you. "Bad Blood" is a film for true lovers of cinema, a chilling tale of a haunting that truly sends chills straight to the bone. Own this DVD today. Released by Tartan Video. ***** Out Of *****
