Horror/Thriller NR. Martha, a widow living in rural Pennsylvania, comes home to find her daughter about to blow her own head off with a shotgun in the basement of their house. Martha doesn't succeed in stopping her child's horrific demise, but the girl's death gradually leads the grieving mother to investigate a conspiracy that involves a legendary local witch, Nazi dabbling with the occult, and secret government experiments, with the story even referencing the fabled Philadelphia Experiment. This is a thinking man's horror film and not one of those brainless slasher films so if thats what your looking for I suggest you skip this film. There's a lot going on in this film, too much to get into here and to do so would also ruin the film for those looking to see it but I can say it's a creepy film filled with suspense. The cast, mainly the leads, Adrienne Barbeau and Nicholas Brendon are excellent as mother and son trying to find the answers as to why their daughter/sister took her own life. As they get deeper into the mystery the plot thickens and becomes more creepy and suspenseful as it moves along. This is an original and highly recommend film to any fan of horror looking for something different to watch. Also this played limited in certain areas in theaters so some may have gotten a chance to catch which would be great as I think this not only played better on the big screen but it also deserves more of a wider release. Released by Anchor Bay Home Entertainment. **** Out Of *****
