The Dead One

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Fabtasy/Horror/Thriller Rated PG-13. Trapped in a purgatory between this world and the next, 21-year-old Diego wanders the streets of L.A. in search of a human sacrifice for the vicious Aztec gods that control his soul. But the sacrifice they want is Maria, his own girlfriend. The Dead One is the story of Diego's fight against the dark gods for his soul...and for the soul of the woman he loves. Based on the El Muerto comic by Javier Hernandez the film stays very faithful to it which should please fan's of the comic. The film might seem like a violent zombie flick on paper but it's far from it, There's some violence and action but there's also a love story here as well which is one of the film's driving themes. The cover makes you think this is a rip-off of "The Crow" but the two film's could not be more different, where "The Crow" was more a revenge thriller The Dead One is about someone looking to find his loved one while battling demons along the way. The film's gore was done in a tasteful way, more off-screen while still making the viewer feel it. Besides the faithful story that is very entertaining the movie also has an excellent cast including Wilmer Valderrama, Angie Cepeda and Billy Drago who is a highlight of the film as he always seems to be. I recommend this to many as it will have a wide appeal due to it's numerous sub-plots and with it's tasteful approach to to the violence it makes this a family friendly film as well.
