This film tells the real-life story of U.S. fighter pilot Dieter Dengler, a German-American shot down and captured in Laos during the Vietnam War. Dengler gets his fellow POWs together and organizes a escape plan. This is not my favorite Werner Herzog film but it is his most commercial film to date. But for a Director that has mostly done film-making the way he has wanted to he again does the same with this film that could of easily been made into a big time CGI, high octane action film but instead Herzog decided to add a heavy drama side to the film. Christian Bale is one of the few actors in Hollywood that can not only put his acting skills in every role but also on that throws his body into it as well which makes him one of the best in the business right now. Steve Zahn is also excellent as the fellow POW, he really plays his sympathetic character to perfection. The film looks and sounds great with both it's amazing cinematography and musical score and the shots of Vietnam are breath-taking. This is not a all out action film so don't expect that instead expect a film that shows tells the story of one man's will and determination and the harsh elements he had to deal with in order to escape from his captives. Werner Herzog does a great job with his direction and brings out the best in his cast making this an exceptional war film. Released by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. **** Out Of *****
