"Gamers" is a comedy about the lives of four hapless friends (and one obsessive interloper) and how they evolve over a 23-year span. It centers on a single day when they are about to break a world record for hours spent role-playing a game called DND, or Demons, Nymphs, and Dragons.
Writer/director Christopher Folino has brought a kind of underground cult hobby to everyone with "Gamers". I am sure not many know about Role Playing Games but with this film they will now see the crazy, obsessive world that many live in. Director Christopher Folino knows a lot about the subject matter here, he too has played the game Dungeons and Dragons for the past 23 years. The film itself was shot mockumentary style in just six days which in itself is amazing since the film looks so good. The main story here follows members of a DND group that are trying to break the record for the longest number of hours played. We get a glimpse of their lives leading up to the big day and let me time you it's a pretty boring life, most have bottom of the barrel jobs and live at home still as well as not being in any kind of relationship. The game is their lives. The movie has real actors playing the roles and each one does a fantastic job. Now did I tell you this movie is hilarious, maybe even offensive at times but either way this film is drop dead funny. There was times when I had to pause the dvd because I was laughing so hard I could not continue watching till I stopped. You feel for these guys but at the same time they are an easy target to make fun of with the way this game controls their lives. The cast had terrific chemistry and this is perhaps the funniest written script I have seen in some time. A lot compare this to a "Spinal Tap" meets Dungeons and Dragons game movie but let's judge this masterpiece on it's own please. Gamers is a film that is done by those that not only know how to make a funny film but also by those that have lived the experience, that alone I like is a big reason why this film cam out they way it did. The entire cast and crew really poured their hearts into this project and it translates into often gross but always hysterical humor that continues for the film's entire 83 minute running time. If your going to see only one comedy this year I suggest Gamers as the movie of choice, even if you don't know anything about RPG's you will still be rolling on the floor with laughter. A film that is sure to become a major cult classic.Monterey Media is quickly becoming a leader in Independent film, their wide range of genres put them among the elite in the industry.
