Over a long holiday weekend, unable to escape the confines of their sorority house, a handful of unsuspecting girls are left behind to enjoy the quiet sanctuary. The normal house staff has taken off for the weekend, leaving the girls to fend for themselves. Thankfully someone was kind enough to send them a temporary replacement chef to cook their meals. However, when the girls start disappearing one-by-one, they begin to suspect something may not be quite right.

I have to admit that even going by the box-art I wasn't sure about this film, I figured it could really be just another one of those low-budget horror films but I can happily say now I was wrong. The film is a low budget horror/comedy but it delivers on exactly what it promises from the cover. The cast is very good considering most all unknown actors and the girls are certainly nice on the eyes and there's plenty of them. But the main actor in the film that really keeps it flowing in the right direction is Mark Hengstas the cook, he bringing not only gore and fear with him but he is also very funny and some of the film's best moments are when he is on screen. The film does have it's weak points and the story, well there isn't much of one really but for pure entertainment value this delivers. The film is full of laugh out loud moments as well as lots of gore and for the guys let's not forget the half-naked women running around. If your looking for a serious horror film or some big budget flick look elsewhere but The Cook is a highly enjoyable film that doesn't take itself serious and by doing so it allows to viewer to really kick back and just enjoy the film for what it is. I recommend this to any true fan of horror or just anyone looking to see something different from all the PG-13 horror films that have been coming out of Hollywood. The DVD comes with bonus features that include:

Widescreen Presentation * Audio Commentary with Executive Producer/Writer/Editor Nicholas Bonomo and Actors Mark Hengst, Makinna Ridgway, Kit Paquin, Nina Fehren and Brooke Lenzi.
