Reeling from his dismissal from a reality show, a deranged runner-up holds a group of co-eds hostage on the set of his own fictitious show, where losers suffer a deadly fate.

A film maybe best described as "Real World" meets the slasher genre. I found it to be great fun and very well paced, the music as well helped extremely well with setting the mood. The cast was excellent, each actor played their parts perfect and were very believable. Edward Furlong has that look for crazed man and he's perfect here as the film's villain. The story was unpredictable which is refreshing today and it kept you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Reality television is bigger than ever and this film does a great job at mocking it but it's still able to maintain it's own direction and is able to create some exciting suspense and action. I have seen mixed reviews for this film but it's mindless fun if you just allow yourself to go along with it, the film doesn't really take itself too serious so why should anyone else. Furlong to me has always been a hit and miss actor, in some films he just seems wooden and out of place but he really stepped it up for this film. Also The Asian chick in the film is fantastic as she fights for her life using her martial arts skills. Jaime Pressly can't be over-looked her either, she has never looked more beautiful and she also does a fine job with her role as well. Cruel World will appeal to both those that love reality TV or hate it as well as any fan of a good thriller. Cruel World is a sometimes funny, scary and hair raising film that is highly entertaining.
