Salem Witch Trails was a two-part CBS Mini-Series back in 2002, this week it's long awaited arrival to DVD is here. Even with a long run time, at a little over three hours, the film is still highly entertaining. This isn't based on Arthur Miller's play "The Crucible" but a straightforward retelling of events leading up to the 1692 trials. Screenwriter Maria Nation consulted historical texts and made suppositions when facts were missing. So it was nice to see a more realistic portrayal of the events surrounding one of the darkest periods in American history. The cast is terrific, each actor holds their own and the accents were spot-on. The cast includes,Alan Bates,Rebecca De Mornay,Shirley MacLaine and Kirstie Alley to name only a few. The settings and costumes were amazing as well. This is one of the better made-for-tv movies you will see, its a edge of your seat tale that contains some historical truth as well.
