After coming within one question of winning 20 million rupees on the Indian version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" 18-year-old Mumbai "slumdog" Jamal Malik is arrested on suspicion of cheating. While in custody, Jamal regales a jaded police inspector with remarkable tales of his life on the streets, as well as the story of Latika, the woman he loved and lost.

How could a kid from the slums of Mumbai come within one question of winning it all? Many much smarter, more educated people have attempted it and failed so what does Malik have going for him that no one else had? Those are the questions and the answers await you in this wonderful tale story of survival and lost love. You find out all about Malik and his older brother, Salim, who was a protector to Malik on the streets as they grew up. There was also someone else in Malik's life,Latika, another orphaned child that was very special to him but she was someone he lost contact with as time with by but has never forgotten. The question must be asked, is Latika the reason for Malik being on national television, does he have a plan no one else knows about? All of the above questions are answered in Slumdog Millionaire, the surprise hit of the year and winner of Best Picture at this year's Oscars. Some that may not have seen it might wonder why a film hardly heard of before and one that was planned to go straight to DVD be such a success? We all know Director Danny Boyle from his famous Zombie flick "28 Days Later" and its sequel but this time around he created a film that is as clever as it is original and that is one of the main reasons for its success. The story is about many things, it is about greed, fate, righteousness and love. You will go through every human emotion possible during the course of the film, you will laugh and yes you will cry and most importantly you are going to be entertained with a great story, fantastic music and breath-taking cinematography. The cast coming into this was one that was unknown but after this it is going to make big stars of its two main leads, Dev Patel and the beautiful Freida Pinto. There has been better movies that have won the big prize in the past and Slumdog now joins that elite list as a film everyone will remember. Also now it has opened the doors for some to seek out more cinema from India, I can tell you there are also many other movies that are just as good. But the reason for the success was this is one of the most honest and heart-felt movies this past year and it was a film that audiences connected with. There is no denying the impact the film leaves on you long after it is over. If you had the chance to see the film on the big screen you know what I mean but if you missed out then I highly suggest owning this on DVD now. The Slumdog Millionaire single-disc DVD will be presented in widescreen format (2.35:1 aspect ratio) with English/ Hindi 5.1 Dolby Surround.
