When you remake or make a feature film from a series with as big a following as Dragonball has you better make sure you get it right, sadly as far as pleasing the long time fans the film ended up a disappointment. The story is changed around in many ways but I don't think that was so much the problem here but I do think the biggest problem came from the direction. James Wong does not have a lot of Directing credits but I did like the "Final Destination" movies so I do not consider him a bad director just one that seems to lose focus at times maybe. The cast I thought did a fine job but I was a little sad seeing Chow Yun Fat in these sort of roles anymore as I remember him in so many great Asian action flicks. The effects were decent enough for this kind of fantasy film and the pacing wasn't bad either. This is one of those movies that can be looked at in two ways, if your a Dragonball fan you will most likely dislike the movie which is why the film did not do well in theaters as it just was not good enough to draw in the core audience. On the other hand if you like fantasy movies with magic and special effects, demons and all that good stuff that goes along with the genre then I do believe you will find it entertaining at least. The film was enjoyable enough for me since I was never a fan and found it to be brainless fun, something I could sit back and watch without having to think a lot about. My hope would be that Hollywood would take more care in developing such projects in the future and that they see that no matter how much special effects you use you still need a good script and someone behind the camera that has some real vision. I do not like being too harsh on this film because like I said as a non-follower I did find it to be entertaining enough it just failed on grabbing th audience it was made for. The film comes out on Blu-ray and DVD with loads of Special Features including:
