WORKING CLASS HERO

JOHN WINSTON LENNON
(John Winston Ono Lennon)
(October 9th 1940 - December 8th 1980)

A HARD YEAR - Childhood.

Born John Winston Lennon, October 9th 1940. Unfortunately, looking back in retrospect, John did not have a childhood that would be envious by most others. As his father was a Merchant Sailor he really did not get to have that quality time as a father - son should have. Although, he did see his father every now and then when he returned from the oceans. John spent a large portion of his life (critical years) with his Aunt Mimi and Uncle George. Mimi and George would act as parents for the lost soul within John. His mother, Julia abandoned him. Mimi gave him the love he needed at this point of his life. No mother no father. Not an ideal way for any child to grow. But, there are children out in the world that are subject to this. Some many years down the track, John would write a song entitled MOTHER that would describe his childhood. A childhood that lacked the parental care and love he needed. Well, a familiar figure would return and impact his life for one final time. His mother would return only to later die. Yet, in this time she taught John the fundamentals of playing the ukulele that would later help him in playing guitar, that would influence his ideas and later The Quarrymen. At this focal point, John found an interest besides art; as in paintings etc. He found the medium of music where he would be able to express his inner most feelings.

The Quarrymen. What one performance for John and The Quarrymen at a school fete would turn into for John and his closest friend Stu Sutcliffe. That afternoon would start to mould the future life of John as well as three others. There he would meet up with a young lad named Paul (Paul McCartney). Paul was inducted into the group and later he finally persuaded John around to listen to this guy play the guitar. This man would become one of the great guitar players in his time according to critics. He would later write one of the most beautiful love songs of the century. This young man was George Harrison. Eventually, Stu would leave the group to persue his dream in arts. Later John would be affected by another death in his already fragile life. The untimely and tragic death of Stu Sutcliffe. John was devastated of the death, yet John's character of determination carried him on with his task at hand. Eventually, The Quarrymen would fade away, readying for John's new creation. A band, that would change the world so viciously, yet so softly. Now, this was the dawning of THE BEATLES. Richard Starkey aka: Ringo Starr would become the fourth member to create the image THE FAB FOUR. These four lads would go on and rule the world through the guidance of John. In a way, John's control of the media would help as well as hamper the group. Throughout the years, John's method and character of outspokeness would truly open the doors of insight to Lennon. With his outrages antics at times, would live with him forever. This was the start of the John Lennon we all came to love. Some in time and others still stick to their guns with thier views. We must remember, that John had a far greater insight into matters than we knew. John was more than an entertainer or song writer. John was a man who saw problems and went out to correct the problems. Just like with his love for Yoko. He kept on telling the media it was only love. In a way, to prove that he later changed his middle name from WINSTON to ONO.

How the Beatles would change John's life after the Fab Four era. With the amount of attention from the press there was no real escape from the lime light. For the early part of his career, especially with his movement for peace. BED IN was a commercial gain for John. With this commercial assest, he would be able to relay his message across the world without too many people battering eyes. In retrospect, maybe the advantage as being a media icon worked. Then again, looking now; it seems that Bed In only had a short term gain instead of a long term gain. Who really knows? From 1975 until 1980, the press became more of a hinderance than an advantage. With the induction of his semi - retirement to spend time and raise Sean, was continuously interupted with the continuing persistance of the press. Every person, no matter what status they uphold needs that room. 1980, the press would again work to the advantage of John. With the release of DOUBLE FANTASY, the amount of publicity received created a fine launching platform for the sequel to Double Fantasy in MILK AND HONEY. Unfortunately, John would never get to see Milk and Honey nor the the success of Double Fantasy. Ironically, the death of John saw the entire world come to a grinding halt, yet the media persisted with the coverage. Just like when he was living. Never a time away from the media's lime light. Now in death, he still owns the lime light in certain ways.
