New coach for Scotland
Tue Feb 20 By: Steven Birchall
Billy McGinty will be the new coach of Scotland in this year’s international
tri-series which includes Ireland and France. McGinty is currently the
assistant at Wigan and takes over McRae (Hulls coach) reign over Scotland
which saw the side lose very closely in all three matches in the World Cup
they played.
McRae has decided to focus entirely on his commitments at Hull, primarily
because of the RFL having to fit the tests in between SLE fixtures. The
match will take place on July 3 against France with the Ireland vs Scotland
match still to be confirmed and may not be played this year. The Irish will
travel to the south of France on Tuesday June 26.
McGinty will be assisted by Swinton coach Mike Gregory, the former Great
Britain forward who was previously assistant to McRae. These two are hoped
to stay on with Scotland over the next 3 years as the side is given a larger
international season.
