Scotland Students Rugby League - Summer Tour 2002

Tour reports:

Game 1: Students v British Army  Game 2: Students v Tartarstan Game 3: Students v Italy

A message from Kevin Rudd, Coach, Scotland Students Rugby League

First of all, many thanks to all those people who bought and sold tickets for Scotland Students prize Draw. For those who still have to pay your contribution, please forward to Flat 7, 41 Kingston Hill, Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey, KT2 7PS. Please make cheques payable to Scotland Students Rugby League. 1 or 2 players are struggling to make the tour due to financial restrictions and those past players who enjoyed their experience so much who contribute some funds will be used to assist those players that are in a financially challenged situation (Skint) but who have pursued avenues of sponsorship or support from their Universities and councils, but for whatever reason have been unsuccessful, etc..

The Draw was made at the recent friendly Student international between England V Scotland at Cockermouth, Cumbria, June 30th.  The winners were Franco Pizzeria from Peebles and Gordon and Grove Investment Consultants from Rochdale who each receive Shirt sleeve sponsorship for our tour. Every sponsor who bought a ticket will be contacted upon our return to let them know how we performed and to provide a small token of our appreciation.

The England match was closely contested and where despite the Scotland side leading 8-6 deep into the second half, England ran out 18-8 winners.  Scotland have a lot to be pleased about, with the introduction of several new International Debutants, which shows great prospects for the future.

The squad, including The Scotland Students and Under-19s Rugby League players will embark on a tour of France and Italy from Saturday July 13th, playing teams such as Italy and the Russian state Tartarstan.  Scotland Rugby League has organised the tour as a result of the cancellation of the Student World Cup, and it provides a great opportunity for the Students to promote the British game at a time when no other major Championship is available to compete in.  The Scotland Students will begin their tour in
London, attending the London Broncos match on Saturday 13th.  The Students and Under-19s will be paraded on the pitch at half time, to promote the release of the book Rugby League Bravehearts book, a history of Scotland Rugby League.

There is also to be a last minute detour, due to problems with holiday periods in France for the students. The tour party will also be now heading to Osnabruck in Germany where they will meet the formidable British Army A and B side based in Germany.

The tour promises to build on previous successful and memorable tours to Russia and France for Scotland Students Rugby league.
