Disclaimer: I don't own the Power Rangers or anything associated with them. I also don't own the song I have used in this little fic. The song is taken from the 'George of the Jungle' Soundtrack. This is the very first fic I ever wrote.
By Mouse.
Billy sat outside looking up at the stars, trying to clear his mind. He always did this at home when he was troubled, it helped him clear his thoughts and make major decisions. Threw the open door he could hear the CD that he had placed in his CD player. It had arrived along with a letter from Jason in his monthly supply drop from Earth. He let his mind clear and the words echo in the still night.
One day I looked up and there you were,
An answer that was what he was looking for tonight. Jason's letter had been full of news from home. It had been over a year since Billy had left and there had been some major changes. The Machine Empire was no longer a threat. The Turbo Rangers were busy fighting Divatox, but they were all new Rangers. Tommy, Adam, Tanya, Rocky and Kat had all retired and gotten on with there lives.
Now I can see you listening to some inner call,
Even Zordon had gone home to his planet, taking Alpha with him. Jason had enrolled in university and was studying law and dating a lovely girl called Emily. Tommy was driving for his uncle's racing team, Adam and Rocky were running a Dojo, Tanya was working in radio and Kat, well, and Kat was studying dancing at Julliard in London. She was even farther away now. Billy sighed as he let the words float into the night.
What if I don't find you when I have landed,
Billy laughed to himself. It was ironic in a way, here he was millions of light years away from home, on a planet made 95% of water and he was still afraid of water. Not that he would admit that to anyone but himself and then only privately. He would go swimming with the Aquatian rangers and with Cestria but not very often. At the thought of Cestria he smiled in remembrance. He had stayed on Aquitar to be with her but things hadn't worked out between them. They were still friends but nothing romantic had happened like he had hoped. He sighed again as his eyes automatically sort out Earth in the stars above.
I think I know why the dog howl at the moon,
Billy had no idea what 'Dela' was but it seemed to sum up how he was feeling. He was drastically homesick for Earth, his friends and his family. He had finished his research project just this morning, which was the only thing that had kept him on Aquitar. He had it all neatly packaged on two-computer discs that were sitting on his bed, next to the letter from Jason.
I've been waiting for you all my life, day and night.
He sighed again, waiting all his life; it seemed to sum up everything he had experienced in the last two years. The loss of his powers, Jason's return his aging problem and decision to stay on Aquitar then his failed relationship with Cestria. The only bright spot that seemed to come from Earth was Jason's news that Tommy and Kat had mutually decided they weren't meant for each other. He knew that he shouldn't be glad about that but Kat was the one thing he missed more than anything on Earth was.
The crying bird sings in the cage that is my heart,
As those words echoed in the still night Kat's face rose in his minds eye. Her kindness and beauty had sustained him though some of the darker times after he had just given up his powers. She had such a sweet soul full of goodness and she was genuinely upset when he had decided to stay on Aquitar, but she was happy for him. Her last letter had said so. But that was over a year ago he had received that.
If I could give a shape to this ache I have for you,
Billy felt his heart constrict. Jason knew him better than he knew himself. He had sent this song to make him realize that he didn't belong on Aquitar, he belonged on earth, with Kat! Billy smiled to himself at how his best friend had once again made him realize his own heart. Sometimes Billy thought Jason knew him better than he did himself!
I think I know, I think I know
He felt someone come up behind him; he turned his head slightly to see Cestro standing there.
I say Dela, Dela, I've got Dela.
Billy got up abruptly and turned to Cestro.
Some Dela, some Dela
Billy took one last look at the room that had been his home for almost two years and then nodded at Cestro. He was surrounded by the shimmering light of a teleportation beam and was on his way, the CD still playing. Earth
Kat paced nervously back and forth in the power chamber. Jason, who would say nothing except keep playing this song and handed her a CD, had summoned her here. It was currently on its fourth repeat but it was a good song she thought. It was just winding down when a teleportation beam landed.
It disappeared leaving Billy standing there, a bag on his shoulder. He looked up at her and dropped the bag.
I burn for you, I burn for you.
The End Authors Note: the song in this fic is called 'Dela (I know why Dog Howls at the Moon)' by Johnny Clegg and Savuka.
