Introduction

Most students have a very vague and blurring idea about what the future requires from them. They think learning and accumulating information is what opens the door for the future wide in front of them; unfortunately it has been proven that school subjects and good scores in exams are not enough if not meek in comparison with the challenging skills needed for the future.

The future calls for other skills that are mostly needed to serve good interactions with others in different circumstances. When the students grow up to take responsibility, they are expected to be fully grown ups and for this purpose they need to be communicative so as to facilitate interpersonal connections, to be decision makers, not just reacting to the events which happens around them; they also need to be problem solvers and this time the problems are for real not imaginary like those in textbooks. That’s why preparing for the future doesn’t count essentially on studies, but on other skills and competencies that school doesn’t or rarely provide.

E.F.F has become a major component of many university syllabi. On this basis the teacher has chosen to raise this issue to make the students acquainted with the future challenges not necessarily the EFF framework as seen by Andrew Hartman in his book “Equipped for the Future Content Standards: What Adults Need to Know and Be Able to Do in the 21st Century”. We’re not going to talk about the standards in detail, but we’ll tackle the fundamental skills required for one to understand what is to become a successful adult.
