There has been a marked increase in reports of paranormal activity and hauntings over the last decade.
For a while, it seems as if 'ghosts' and 'hauntings' were considered something of nyth and legen. The only reality was one you could touch. But as of late, the legends and stories are returning to the general consiousness, with less doubt and cynicism.
In the 1800's, Everyone had a ghost story.
By the 1950's it was mostly the teens who had the tales.
In the 60's there were few tales of hauntings... And following that, It became silly or just plain crazy to admit to 'seeing a ghost'.
Once again we are in a time where people are again admitting to seeing things 'not quite normal'. We could attribute this to society and its moral condition, or we could look towards other possible influences.
If you follow the solar cycle, you will see a direct correlation between solar activity and paranormal activity. When in a high cycle, the sun releases free electromagnetic energy in large bursts. This energy is all around us and effects everything it touches.
During the 1800's we were in a high cycle, in the early 1900s, we were in a low activity cycle.
It's not that people are more willing to report events, It's merely that it is easier for a manifestation of paranormal activity to occur when there is more free energy available for the event to utilize. Therefore more events are occuring now than then, so more people witness and report them.

200% increase in the known density of Mars' atmosphere encountered by the Mars Surveyor satellite in 1997 (NASA 1997)
Significant melting of Martian polar icecaps in just one year, clearly seen in satellite photography (NASA 2001)
Significant physical, chemical and optical changes on Venus, including a sharp decrease in sulfur-containing gases in its atmosphere and increasing brightness ( Dmitriev 1997)
The Sun's magnetic field increased by 230 percent since 1901 There's a study by Dr. Mike Lockwood from Rutherford Appleton National Laboratories in California, who has been investigating the Sun. He has discovered that since 1901, the overall magnetic field of the Sun has become 230 percent stronger than it was before.
We still dont know the effects all this extra free energy will cause on earth. But we know there is a direct correlation between electromagnetic energy and paranormal activity. Based on this, you can expect a major increase in paranormal activity.
