| TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 Greetings. It's been a while. But, there is reason to write right now. That of course was that big Terrorist shennanigan. Would you like to know what I took out of the whole situation? I was just reminded of all the things I don't like about this country. Well, more so society in general. For instance. That happened on Tuesday. I knew this because that was obviously all that was on the radio all day at work. So after work I'm driving home, and I stop for cigarettes. About 10:00 p.m. And naturally I hold the door for the woman leaving behind me. I had heard her telling the clerk how this was the 5th store she went to looking for a newspaper, but everywhere else was sold out. She'd bought a newspaper. Not just any newspaper, but the "special edition", late-night version of the local morning paper. They only put out a "late-night" ediont that day. They don't usually do that. But why did they do it on that day? TO MAKE MONEY AT THE EXPENSE OF THOSE HARMED. Mm-hmm. And this woman starts talking to me. She asks me why I'm not buying a paper!!! It'll be a collectors item!!! I explain I don't need any paper. Then she comments that "it's a tradgety". And I thought to myself, "IT'S SUCH A TRADGETY THAT YOU WENT TO FIVE STORES LOOKING FOR A COLLECTORS ITEM NEWSPAPER THAT RAPES SUCH TRADGETY. YOU COULDVE SPENT THAT TIME DONATING BLOOD TO THOSE WHO WILL NEED IT". See what I'm talking about? And then she of course made a derogitory comment about foreigners. Not the ones who did this, but all of them. Actually, I've been hearing a lot of people talking about how we should blow up these other countries and how we should'nt let forieners in. This is another thing that kills any pride I may have had in "my" country. Who are we to do such things? Who are we to attack a nation of undernourished, poor, oppressed people? These countries are ruled by dictators. These people have nothing. And these dictators make their lives worse. Who are we, as "america"; to go dropping bombs on people who did absolutely nothing wrong?!? I am sickened by this. And I heard a story of a man in Chicago attacking an Arabian man with a Machette. Why? Because he was Arabian. The guy was just minding his business, working at a gas station, and someone attacks him because of the color of his skin. When did we, as "america", think that our freedoms made us so goddam high and mighty??? This literally makes me sick to my stomach. And don't even get me started on the fact that the Idians were here first. Goddamit, we're the "foriegners". And "we" talk of how outraged we are. That's funny to me. Cause I've already seen the first "collectors edition" newspaper. I've already heard the first tribute song on the radio, which I'm sure will be released as a "special edition" (i.e. "expensive") single. And I'm sure it won't be long before we can log on to E-Bay and "own a piece of history!" scooped off the ground by some unscrupulous lolli-gagger. And of course one of the first reports out was from the physically flawless anchorwoman who assured us all "that this tradgety will not affect our economical system or Wall Street." That's reasuring. The tradgety to me is "my" country. We've all been taught that our purpose in life is to have nicer things than the next guy, and to be tougher then a frail women in Pakiistan who is watching her children starve to death. Well I say screw that. I say that if that's my purpose in this game of life, then I don't wanna play anymore. So I encourage everyone to take what they can from this. And that's a good look at themselves. Ourselves. Myself. What have we become? No one man is any better than the next. Regardless of anything. Where you were born, what color your skin is, how much money you make, what you do, who you are. I'll say this, the whole thing has taught me a lot about tolerance. I've always liked to consider myself pretty fair and open minded, but now I'm gonna make that much more effort. I suggest you do the same. If you overhear the man next to you in the line at Wal-Mart talking about "killing all them damn Turban-Heads", then you interupt him and loudly let him know how ignorantly wrong that you know he is. And I'll say one more thing. They're predicting the death toll at about 12,000 right now. And I would just about guarentee that we as "america" end up killing at least 3 times more then that when we drop our bombs on innocent people who can do nothing but pray. And that's sickening. What gives us the right? But then our Old Men, our womanizing poloticians, our media moguls, our disgruntled rednecks, our Klu Klux Klans and Oil Drillers can feel like "big-men". So those with "power" can convince themselves that all the wrongs they've done are right. Wait, a quote! This one comes from Trent Reznor, and is meant completely angrily and sarcastically towards the people who will be making these very decisions in the "best interests" of those of us who disagree with them and realize how much more wrong will be done: "And doesn't it make you feel better? So that's all I'm gonna say as my official take on this tradgety, whatever the real tradgety may be. And I could be wrong, but I'm gonna stick to it. So that's gonna be my writing for the day, as the last bit has me pretty well spent. Besides, I've got a busy weekend coming up. Well, a busy rest of the year actually. We'll get to that next time, though. Good night.
