*The Lake*
by Jess

Watch your skin peel away
As the barbed wire closes in.
Let the blood slide down
From your eyes
Past your lips.
The placid liquid surface
Beckons in a gentle voice,
"Come in for a swim."
All your insides twist
Into your throat,
So sore.
Breathing matters no more.

Ripped and dead,
One step,
Plunge beneath the icy flames.
Raised arms,
You're falling.
See the blinking stars fade.
Fingers reach for reasons...
Acceptance.
Notice.
Love.
Former pains and greivances
Pushed out by the flood.
The soft drumming increases,
Pounding
Louder
Harder
Faster.
Scars wash away, tingling.
Staring upwards into black,
Your lungs slowly fill.
The burning matters no more.

Bruises
Worry
Fear
All behind.
Surrounded by such a dark serene....
From reality, you're now detached.
Not a question or a guess,
Somehow this all seems surreal.
Life is leaving without a struggle,
You have found true peace.
This solitude,
Sadly so brief.
It's all over now
All over now.
The world matters no more.
