The leaning tower of turbocharged power

This is my 1968 Plymouth Valiant 4 door with a turbocharged 225 slant six. Why the 4 door you may ask, why not!!! Anyways, what could be more unassuming, a gold, paint faded, 4 door Valiant. Probably got a stock slant sick under the hood. Don't mind the single 2.5 " tailpipe out the back, or the loud whistle while accelerating (probably just an exhaust leak?).
Ever since I got into the Mopar thing (I call it a religion), I have been intrigued by the slant six. No other manufacturer ever put their motor on an angle. What was their reasoning I thought?? One day it came to me, more room for a turbocharger!! Being no stranger to turbocharging (even at the age of 23) I decided what the heck, what do I have to lose. After procuring enough parts to make the swap possible, my father and I started fabbing everything to make it happen. The turbo is off a 200'ish cubic inch Renault Diesel engine (thanks Roger!). Being it was off a diesel engine which uses no wastegate, I had to install a aftermarket wastegate from Turbo City. After much fabrication and adjusting (and MUCH, MUCH harassment from the local folk!) I had the prototype version of my turbo'd /6! After the installation of the MSD 6BTM red box (which is triggered by the stock points distributor!) which was used to retard the timing under boost, I was off to the dragstrip. The best time I was able to click off was a 16.88 Sec. From what I understand, that is a 3 to 4 second improvement over stock!

This is the shot of the turbo setup from the drivers side, look close and you will see the aftermarket wastegate and oil drain into the pan. This may look like a plumbers nightmare (a very messy one at that!) but I believe in perfecting the project, then cleaning it up!

What possessed me to do this, easy to answer, I had to be different, WAY different. Got tired of having what everyone else had. When was the last time you've seen a slant six that wasn't ripped out and replaced with a V-8, let alone one that is turbocharged! This picture was taken just before the head was removed to replace it with a ported and larger valve head!

Here is a pic of the EFI installation in progress. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, it may actually run! ***** Update, December 25, 2000 (yes, it has been awhile!) Well, the EFI setup actually ran, and after many hours of tuning, the engine developed a nasty knock, which turned out to be a main bearing knock!!! :( So the project is on the back burner indefinitely while I pursue my next project, running twelves in my '89 Plymouth Voyager minivan with the 2.5 Litre turbo 4 cylinder, I will link to that page when it gets made!!!!

UPDATE AS OF 12/07/04(this was kinda neat.)
I seen my old webpage on your angelfire website. I havent seen that page in years!!! I was kinda shocked when I seen it. Alot has changed since them pages were up, the car has been sold, had a healthy 360 installed and the car has turned into a corner carver (as funny as it sounds, it is true) and I have nothing left of the original car. I was forced to sell all the pieces that I have left over because I had a job transfer to Phoenix AZ just recently. If you have any more questions, I will be happy to answer any of them. I am always here :) Mike Schwochert
