A grey morning is the way the day starts and we pan down on Eve Alex and Craig all dressed in black. We pan out and see other people dressed in black as well. We pan over the people and see that they are standing around two coffins at a cemetery. A funeral is taking place. A priest is standing at the head of the coffins and he makes the sign of the cross with his hand.

Priest - And we say goodbye to Shannon Roberts and Elise MacLean. Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust.

The coffins descend into the ground as the crying and mourning people disband. As Eve, Alex and Craig turn to leave one woman with a tear streaked face walks up to them.

Woman - Excuse me? Excuse me, are you the people who exposed that awful woman and her group?

Eve, Alex and Craig turn back around to face the woman. They are not surprised she recognized them since they were on the news

Eve - Yes.

Woman - I'm Shannon's mother. Thank you for coming to the ceremony today. You didn't have to.

Eve - I wanted to pay my respects

Mrs. Roberts - (begins to cry again) I hope she didn't hurt anybody. She really was a good girl. She was just always so alone. I know she just wanted to feel like she was a part of something. (looks to Eve Alex and Craig) Thank you for stopping that murderous woman before she killed someone else.

Eve - I'm just sorry we couldn't stop her before . . . before everything that happened(takes the Mrs. Roberts hand and shakes it.)

Eve watches sadly as the Mrs. Roberts walks back over to her husband crying. Alex puts her arm around Eve and leads her to the car

Alex - This was not your fault.

Eve - How did you know I was thinking that?

Alex - Because I know you by now and I know you’re blaming yourself for those girls deaths

Eve - They died as punishment because they couldn’t kill me

Alex – You have no reason to carry the weight of Raven’s crimes. You’ve got your own weight to bear.

Eve -(sadly) I know.

Alex and Eve get to the car with Craig in the drivers seat. Eve climbs into the back seat.

Eve -(changing to a lighter topic) So when am I going to learn how to drive?

Craig - Eve, you're still learning how to use a stove, let's stick to other people driving for now.

Eve - (glares at Alex) You told him?

Alex – You blew my stove through the wall!

Eve - It was an accident

Alex – Next time just order in.(Changing the subject again) Craig, can we stop by my centre? I want to see how the renovations are going

Eve - Our Centre.

Craig - Are you girls going to think up a name for this place yet or are we going to keep calling it "the centre?"

Eve - How about “Eve's place”?

Alex - I paid for that building, so how about “No”!

Eve - So what were you thinking of calling it?

Alex - I was thinking about a name that reflects our cause, what we are trying to do for people here. Every new day is a new chance to make a difference, make better choices for a better future.

Craig - Maybe that's what you should call it. New Days Centre

Alex - (apprehensive about the name) I guess. If I wanted it to sound like a cheap motel.

Cut to inside the centre as Alex Eve and Craig walk in. They notice a dramatic change has come about. The rotting boards are replaced by fresh wood and it begins to look like a centre instead of a decrepit building

Alex walks over to a big guy in a white shirt, overalls and a hard hat

Alex - Hey Lenny ! How are the renovations coming along?

Lenny – Good. We've replaced all the rotting boards, built the bar and fixed the bathrooms. We're about ready to start on the plumbing.

Alex - Great

Lenny - By the way, what do you want us to do with the second floor?

Alex - Second floor? What's on the second floor?

Lenny - Looks like an old apartment

Alex - Mind if we check it out?

Lenny – It’s your building. The entrance to the second floor is by the bar

Alex Eve and Craig open the door that leads to a backroom that is filled with junk. To the right and up is the door to the second floor, for now a ladder has been put there in order to access it. Alex, Craig and Eve climb the ladder.

Cut to an apartment that looked like the centre did last week. A kitchenette is off to their right side and at the far end of the room there used to be a fireplace. There is also a bedroom and a bathroom on their left side.

Alex - A one-bedroom apartment. What do ya know.

Eve - I like it.

Craig - You do?

Eve -Yeah. This could be a really nice apartment.

Alex – Whoa, what are you thinking?

Eve - I want to fix it up. I want to live here.

Alex - Hold on a minute “Mrs Fix It”. You’re going to need some money to fix this place up and I’ve already spent a lot of my own money putting this centre together.

Eve – Craig, can you give me a loan?

Craig - (nods) I think investing in your future is something I can arrange.

Alex – Are you serious?

Craig – Independent living would be good for Eve.

Alex - That's a big step

Craig - She can't live with you forever. (looks to Eve) Having you live on your own above the centre where you'll be working with Alex can teach you a lot about how we live today. It's going to be a lot of work though.

Eve - (nods) I know but I think I need this.

Alex - You're going to have learn how to use a stove.

Craig - And budgeting and paying bills . . .

Eve - (inhales deeply) Its a lot but like you said, I need to learn how to live in this time, the way everyone else does.

Alex -(ponders the situation for a minute) Okay, lets do this. First step finding out how much this is going to cost. I can get Lenny to an estimate.

Craig - (nods) And depending on the sum my bank is probably going to wonder why I'm loaning out my own money. There will probably be some paperwork. Eve, can you go to the bank and bring the paperwork back? We can work out the details at the loft later.

Eve - You're not going to come?

Alex - I have to stay here and get Lenny to figure out how much fixing this apartment up is going to cost.

Craig - I have a mountain of papers to grade. I can drop you off at bank Eve but then you will have to take the bus back

Eve - So I have to go on my own?

Alex – You’re going to have to get used to doing these kinds of things by yourself. We can’t hold your hand guiding though everything in this century!

Craig – Patience Alex, we talked about patience.

Alex – Blah Blah Blah

Eve – Fine! I’ll go on my own but after this I want to learn how to drive!

Eve heads out of the apartment with Craig behind her

Cut to Craig stopping the car in front of the bank and Eve steps out

Craig - Don't look so nervous Eve, just ask the teller that you want to get some papers to make out a request for a loan. It's no big deal just chill

Eve -(half smiles) I'll see you later Craig (closes the car door)

Craig smiles then drives off

Eve walks into the bank and sees the people going about their business. Eve stands in a line for one of the tellers and waits.

Fade to later, after a long wait she finally gets up to the teller and just as she opens her mouth a man with a mask runs in and shoots the gun in the air and it goes off with a load bang

Masked man - EVERYONE GET DOWN ON THE GROUND! THIS IS A ROBBERY

Scared and confused, some of the people gasp and whimper and they lay face down on the ground. Everyone gets down on the ground except for Eve. She stands there stunned. She looks around at all the people with concern and worry for them. The robber sees her still standing. Eve locks eyes with him and raises her chin ready for a confrontation. He walks over to her grabs her by the shirt and points the gun to her head.

Masked man - Did you not hear what I just said!?!

Eve takes the robber's arm and twists it so his hand drops the gun. Eve then kicks him in the stomach.

Cut back to one of the bank tellers. They touch the panic button under the counter that notifies the police.

As the man doubles over in pain Eve feels a prickling of guilt and feels sorry for the man. She hesitates for a moment then looks around. She makes up her mind and walks over to him in an attempt to comfort him. As she puts a hand to his back he stands up quickly and takes her by the hair and bangs her head in to the wall knocking her unconscious.

Everything goes black.

We cut to later as Eve comes to as a police officer shakes her to wake up.

Eve – (disoriented and frightened she shrugs away from the police officer.) What happened?

Policeman - We caught the robber that knocked you out. The teller told us what you did. Not everyday a young lady stands up to a man with a gun. It was brave even if it was stupid.

Eve - I did that?

Policeman - Are you okay? Should we take you to the hospital?

Eve -(in a daze) No, I'm fine (Eve gets up and walks out of the bank)

Policeman – (calls after her) Hey wait! What's your name?

Eve- (still walking out of the bank, whispers to herself) I wish I knew.

Later that afternoon Alex is pacing around in her loft and she hears a knock on the door. She walks over and lets Craig in.

Craig – Hey, you called in a panic! What's wrong?

Alex - Eve never came by the centre. She didn't come home either.

Craig - Do you think she's lost?

Alex - How could she get lost?

Craig - She has lived in Ancient Europe for twenty-six years of her life. This is New York in 21st century I'm sure it's very easy

Alex – But the bus picks up people right in front of the bank and stops practically in front of the centre.

Craig - It's a big city Alex. Come on. Let's go check the Police stations. She knows to go to one of those if she ever gets lost.

Alex - Why didn't she call then? Something is wrong!

Craig – Come on, we'll check out the stations.

It’s early evening as Eve walks down the dark streets and through the alleys. Homeless people look up from their corners and watch this strange girl walk through the alley like she is lost.

One man dressed in torn jeans with a leather vest and a chain wrapped around his fist walks out of a shadowed corner and looks at this girl as easy pickings. He comes up behind her with the intent of putting the chain around her neck and strangling her.

As he puts the chain over her head Eve turns around suddenly and punches him in the face then kicks him in the chest sending him stumbling back. Another guy comes out of the shadows and Eve does a drop kick to get the knife out of his hand. Then she jumps up and kicks the man sending flying in to the wall and landing in a pile of trash. A big guy with a gun runs up and starts shooting at Eve. Eve runs up a wall to avoid the shots. She then flips over to land right in front of the man and head butts him. He stumbles back dropping the gun and Eve grabs him by the throat.

Eve - Give me one reason why shouldn't snap your neck!

Man - (choked voice)I was just sticking up for my homeboys

Eve - And why were they attacking me?

Man with the chain -(hand on his chest rubbing the sore spot where Eve kicked him) I just needed your money

Eve throws drops the man and shoves the other man into the wall by his throat

Eve - For what?

Man with chain - Just for . . . . . food

Eve - Yeah right (begins to tighten her grip against his throat)

Man with knife -(gets up from the garbage heap he landed in)We need the money to get some heat!

Eve - Heat?

Man with chain- (in a choked voice) Guns!

Eve - (Drops the man) Guns?

Eve has a flash of an Amazon putting a gun to her head. Eve doesn't recognize the voice of the woman talking to her

*flash*

Alex(voice) They're deadly

*end flash*

Eve - (confused) Why do you want guns? They’re deadly

Man with knife - Why not? We could rule this city.

*flash*

Ares - And soon you will be the most powerful woman in the world

*flash*

Livia - I was destined to be the empress of an empire

*flash*

Ares - Reclaim your destiny

*end flash*

Eve closes her eyes smirking. The thoughts of ruling a city sounds good and familiar. It brings back memories of power and the only clue she had to her identity. She opens her eyes and looks to the man with the knife and she saunters over to him in a seductive manner smiling a Livia type smile

Eve - What's your name?

Man with gun - I'm Frank (gestures to his comrades) That's Mark and Joe

Eve - Well, Frank, you want money? I can get you money

Mark - How?

Eve -(tosses her hair over her shoulder) Go to the city bank.

Frank – (laughs looking at her incredulously) And what? Make a withdraw?

Eve - A large one. I can get us in without a fuss. I saved one bank today. I’m entitled to a reward, I intend to claim it. You come in take the money and you could get all the guns you want.

Frank -(looks at her wearily) What's in it for you?

Eve - I like power. You strike me as men who know the means to attain it. I can wield it to get everything desired.

Man – But why?

Eve - It's my destiny.

COMMERCIAL

Cut to a crowded police station. Craig sits in the waiting area while Alex is pacing. Lt Morrison comes out of a room. He sees Craig and Alex waiting impatiently. Craig stands up when he approaches

Craig – Jeff, hi! What have you found out? Has anyone seen or heard from Eve?

Lt Morrison - We have a report of a woman in a bank early today that fits the description of Eve. Apparently she saved the bank from being robbed.

Alex - That's Eve alright.

Craig - What happened to her?

Lt Morrison - We don't know, she just walked off. The officer who gave the report couldn’t even get her name. Perhaps you should go to bank she was at. They might know where she was headed

Craig -(sighs) Thanks Jeff. Please call if you get any word.

Lt Morrison - I'll do what I can but remember we don't officially start looking for missing person's unless they've been missing for twenty-four hours.

Craig - I understand.

Lt Morrison nods and Alex and Craig walk out of the station.

Craig - There is something more to this. Eve would not just walk off. She’s law abiding, she’s been brushing up on it and she knows the procedures. She’d stay and give a statement and make sure everyone was alright.

Alex – Maybe it wasn’t her.

Craig – How many girls do you know who’d have the courage to stand up to a criminal?

Alex – Me for one! But you have a point. What are we going to do? Where do even start to look?

Craig - Eve's last known whereabouts. The bank. I just hope wherever she is, she’s alright.

Fade to a warehouse. Inside it's dark and there are many wooden boxes.

Frank - My man G. will let us borrow these babies for the "withdraw" we want to make.

He opens the wooden box and takes out two big guns and two smaller guns.

Frank - And if we are successful we can keep them(smiles a big toothy grin)

Eve - What do you mean "if?" We will be successful.

Joe and Mark start nodding in approval.

Joe - Damn girl I like you. Who are you anyway?

Eve - Is that really important?

Frank - We got to call you something

Eve - Enough with the small talk (takes small gun in her hand) Let's go and reclaim destiny

Fade to the bank where Alex and Craig are talking to the teller

Teller – (bored and frustrated) I don’t know how much more I can tell you . . . look, we’re closing in a few minutes . . .

Alex - Are you sure you haven't seen her?

Teller - I might have seen her but I've seen a lot of girls who look like you described.

Craig - She stopped a robbery

Teller - Oh that girl

Alex - Yes! Do you know where she is?

Teller -(Thinks about it for a moment) Umm . . . .

The teller looks past Alex and Craig and sees Eve walk through the door. The teller points just past Alex and Craig

Teller -Right there

Alex and Craig turn around and watch Eve walk in and stand on a large desk

Eve - Excuse me everyone I would like your attention. I need everyone to lie face down on the ground!

Everyone looks at her confusion.

Eve -(Takes her gun out and shoots it to the roof) NOW!!

COMMERCIAL

Eve – Everyone get down on the ground NOW!!!

Everyone gets on the ground except for Craig and Alex.

Alex – Oh crap!

As the tellers are focused on Eve, Mark and Joe come in from the back way and put their guns to two tellers. Frank moves to the far wall of the bank to make sure everyone does as told.

Frank – Everyone just calm and no one will get hurt. Mark, take your teller to the vault. We wish to make a withdrawal.

Mark holds a small gun to the teller’s head that was talking to Alex and Craig. He nudges it in her head and she gasps a little

Mark – Move it!

The teller whimpers and slowly moves to take him to the vault. As she passes, one teller moves her hand slowly under the desk to press a button that alerts the Police. Frank and Joe move around the bank. Alex and Craig keep their hands up in the air to make it look like they’re complying. They move over to Eve cautiously.

Craig - Eve?

Eve - Who the hell are you talking to? GET ON THE GROUND!

Alex - (calmly) Eve, we are talking to you.

Eve is shaking her head. She jumps off the desk and points her gun at Alex.

Eve - SHUT UP!

Craig - Eve we’re your friends. We don't want to fight you.

*flash*

Gabrielle - Xena wants to protect you. She will not fight you.

*end flash*

Eve - Well, maybe you haven't been properly motivated

Craig stands in front of Alex

Craig - Go ahead pull the trigger

Alex - Craig!

Eve doesn't move. She keeps the the gun on Craig

Eve – You think I won’t?

Alex – (to Craig) What are you doing?

Craig – (still focused on Eve) Pull it if you can. But you know that's not who you are

*flash*

Livia chops of the head of a kneeling villager

Livia swings around and back hands Gabrielle

*flash*

Livia kicks her mother in the face and is about to stab her when Xena stops her

Xena – That’s why I came back. To show you who you truly are.

*end flash*

Eve’s hands begin shaking as she struggles to pull the trigger. She grits her teeth trying to block out the memories that flood her mind.

Eve – NO! No this is my destiny.

Craig steps forward so the gun barrel touches his chest.

Craig – Then kill us, if that is your destiny

*flash*

Xena – No! Your destiny isn’t to kill, it’s to find a new way beyond the killing!

*flash*

Eve protects Marga from being killed by one of Ares soldiers

Eve speaks to people of love in Amphipolous

Eve shakes Varia’s hand as she is forgiven by the Amazons

Eve lowers the gun slowly. Her breathing becoming slow and heavy, tears beginning to form in her eyes.

Craig - We care about you Eve

Gabrielle - Your mother loves you

Xena - I love you

Xena - Did you think we would love you any less?

Eve – I’m Eve, the Messenger of Eli.

*end flash*

Eve crumples to the ground grabbing her head in pain. Both Frank and Joe notice this commotion and are confused by their “leader’s” change

Eve - (in a whisper)I remember.

Frank comes up behind her

Frank -Screw this!

Aims his gun at Craig to shoot

Eve - NO!

Suddenly the police barge in the bank!

Officer – HANDS UP!!

The swat team swings down from the ceiling. The robbers are completely surrounded. Frank and Joe drop their guns and put their hands up. Officers come in and arrest them while other officers help the hostages up. Alex and Craig look around and then look back to Eve.

Eve breathes in and let out a heavy sigh. She begins to sob, her body shaking at what she did and how much worse she could have done. Craig takes her in his arms

Eve - I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.

Craig - It's okay. It's going to be okay!

Mark comes out of the vault. He sees his friends being arrested and the police officers that surround the building. He shoves the teller, grabs the cash and makes a run for it. Craig however sees this cowardly act.

Craig - (releases Eve and directs to Police towards Mark)The third guy is running out the back

Lt. Morrison who just came in covered in a bullet proof vest points for three policemen to go after him. He goes over to Frank and Joe and looks at them in disgust, he then turns and walks to Eve and Craig.

Lt Morrison - Are you okay? What happened here?

Eve looks to Craig stunned. She doesn't know what to say

Craig – Ah, we're not sure but I think those guys buy and sell guns. We've seen stories on the news involving gangs that commit these crimes. I think Eve came across a gang and lured them into a trap.

Eve looks at Craig with wide eyes at the lie he told and then looks to Lt Morrison who is looking at her for confirmation. She nods regaining her composure.

Eve – Yes, exactly.

Lt Morrison - That was a dangerous and stupid! You're not a cop! You don't go tracking down people like that!

Craig - We understand Eve put herself in danger but she didn’t go looking for them.

Eve - I stopped a robbery here earlier and I was disoriented afterwards when I left. I ran into them in an alley, they attacked me but I was able to fend them off.

Craig – I’ve been talking about it for a while. Eve was very concerned wondering how to help

Lt Morrison – But ordinary citizens don’t put themselves in danger by luring criminals into a trap to get them back in police custody. They call the police for that.

Alex – But Eve figured out who these guys were and what they do. They were going to commit crimes any way. Her instinct to protect people just took over when she ran into these guys

Jeff - Instinct?

Craig - She saved a lot of people’s lives here today and helped you put three criminals back behind bars before they did any real damage.

Lt Morrison - You can't go taking the law into your own hands every time you think you can do some good. The laws are there for your protection.

Craig – Protecting the people is all we ever have in mind.

Lt Morrison - (sighs) You all need to give statements and then we're going to have a long talk about civic responsibility. I should be able to bail you out of any jail or court time because of the good you did today but I can't promise that the next time.

Craig - (sighs relieved) Thanks

Lt Morrison - Just go home for now. We'll wrap things up here but you’ll be getting a call tomorrow.

Lt. Morrison walks off and attends to the other hostages and people in the bank, taking statements and making sure people are alright and getting out safe and sound while other officers apprehend and search Frank, Joe and Mark.

Alex – (walks up to Craig and Eve) That was close.

Craig – I’ll say

Eve – Why’d you do that? Why did you lie for me?

Craig – Because there’s a greater good to served.

Eve – I nearly committed a crime

Craig – But you didn’t and together we prevented one and put three criminals away.

Alex – But seriously Eve, robbing a bank in broad daylight? I would have gone in the night, ropes and wires and under the cover of darkness. Mission Impossible style!

Craig and Eve looks at her incredulously

Alex – (shrugs) So I watch a lot of movies.

Craig – (shakes his head) Let’s just get out of here.

Eve – Wait! Craig, thank you.

Craig – For what?

Eve – For bringing me back.

Alex and Craig smile at Eve who smiles back

Officer – Move along!

Eve Alex and Craig move out of the way as officers lead the criminals away. Suddenly Frank breaks free of his bonds and shoves officers down and out of the way. He grabs onto an officers gun and aims to shoot Craig down.

Eve – No!

Eve charges at Frank and pushes his gun away just as it goes off. She grabs the gun and whacks Frank over the head with the end of it.

Officers runs over and grab the unconscious Frank securing him and carrying him out. Lt Morrison runs over.

Lt. Morrison – Are you alright?!!!

Craig – (shocked) Yeah I’m fine. Thanks to Eve.

Lt. Morrison – (sighs) Just get out of here Craig.

Craig – (sighs and nods) You’re right. (to Eve) You ready?

Eve – (nods) Yeah, more than ready. I just want this day to be over.

Craig – Agreed (turns to Alex) Come on Alex let’s go.

Alex just stands there with her hand clutched to her stomach. Her are eyes emotionless and haven't blinked

Craig - Alex? Are you okay?

Close up on Alex's midsection where she takes away her hand. Her palm in covered in blood and there is a hole in her stomach surrounded by blood. We pan up to Alex's face as she gasps.

Cut to black
