A realm walked only by its inhabitants and those with open minds, Catia (conventionally pronounced as in the Terran Russian Katya) is a land of stange and yet familiar creatures, a language that a skilled Terran linguist could decipher, and a system of understandable, sensible, and workable magic. Its ancient history is vague and understood by few on the surface, but is known in the more educated classes of society not to be native but artificially settled by Ancients not like themselves. The occasional passersby wonder if this was the fate of the wandering Terran cult of psychotic (but capable) utopianist genetic engineers who escaped with all the required equipment to found a new civilization. The mages of the world, who know the mechanics and mathematics of their magic, know it was carefully set up by some powerful being for their use, though it is generally believed among them that this being is the deity they worship.

Catia, as a whole, is welcoming to strangers of all kinds, provided they are open-minded. The M'ae are not particularly discriminative by appearances. Your mind will not be shunned here.
