Character/s |
Blue Seed |
Koume
Sawaguchi Koume is a brash, trigger-happy member of the TAC (some sort of military division that deals specifically with monsters called Aragami). It's not that often Mitsuishi-sama plays such a tomboy-ish, gruff character and she pulls off it extremely well. |
Elf wo Karu Mono Tachi
(Those who Hunt Elves) |
Celcia
Marikreel Celcia is the most powerful elf that all the other elves look up to. However, when she stuffs up in trying to send three foreigners home to Japan, she is forced to help them...um...strip elves. Celcia spends most of the series in a dog form and is just hilarious, especially when the missing fragments transfer onto her face. ^^;; |
Excel Saga |
Excel Excel is one of Mitsuishi Kotono's most hyper roles and she ought to be commended for playing such an exhausting character for a full 26 episodes. (The dub actress, Jessica Calvello, damaged her voice half-way through and had to be replaced). Mitsuishi Kotono proved her talent for talking extremely fast in this anime of parodies. |
Fruits
Basket |
Kagura
Souma Mitsuishi Kotono is adorable as Kagura of the cursed Juunishi family. She sounds so cute that you almost can't pick her out, especially after listening to her Mireille. (Fruits Basket and Noir aired about the same time in Japan). Fruits Basket has an incredible seiyuu cast, including another one of my favorite seiyuus, Horie Yui, who is so sweet in all her roles I have heard and extremely talented in singing. |
Kidou
Senshi Gundam Seed |
Maryu
Ramius | Haro | narrator This is one of Mitsuishi Kotono's newer roles and her second role in a Gundam series. Gundam Seed sees reunion of the two brilliant seiyuus of Noir as well as a spectacular cast all round. Maryu Ramius reminds me a little of Misato in the sense that she's a captain in charge and connects closer with the children pilots than most other adults. Mitsuishi Kotono also does the narration and next episode previews, another similiarity to Misato. She also plays Haro, Lacus' "pet". |
Kidou
Tenshi Angelic Layer |
Shouko
Asami WAI! I love it when my favorite seiyuu appear in CLAMP roles because they are always so good. ^^ This is no exception. Shouko is Shuuko's younger sister and is the aunt that Misaki comes to stay with when she arrives in Tokyo. Being a newscaster, Shouko is very particular about her age and insists that Misaki doesn't call her "obasan". ^^ |
Neon
Genesis Evangelion |
Misato
Katsuragi Misato is my favorite anime character of all time. I've loved this character from the first time I watched Evangelion. She, to me, is like the embodiment of Mitsuishi Kotono; intelligent, in control and beautfiul. Mitsuishi Kotono even shares the same birthday as Misato, but this is an intentional thing by GAiNAX, rather than mere coincidence. |
Noir |
Mireille
Bouquet My second favorite female character of all time in my favorite anime of all time. When Mitsuishi Kotono does a role, the character just appeals so much more to me. Mireille is without a doubt one of her more dangerous and serious roles. During a 'Making of Noir' special, Kuwashima Houko said that Mireille and Mitsuishi-sama synchronize very well because they are so alike. And Mitsuishi Kotono herself commented that Mireille's moods were easy to grasp because she felt that she and Mireille share many common elements. Mireille is truly a beautiful character both in appearance and in soul, and nobody could have played her better than Mitsuishi Kotono. This is one role that really means a lot to me and hits deep. |
Oruchuban
Ebichu |
Ebichu This is an extremely rude comedy anime by GAiNAX about a house-keeping hamster that pushed the limits of what was allowed to be shown on Japanese TV. I don't usually like these sort of shows, but this one is absolutely hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing. Mitsuishi-sama is perfect as Ebichu and she and Tomizawa Michie (her owner) play off each other perfectly. Seki Tomokazu is also great as the cheating boyfriend. |
Paranoia
Agent |
Harumi
Chouno/Maria WOW. Mitsuishi-sama's first 2004 anime role and it displays her talent even more. This "psycho-suspense" by Satoshi Kon is a great start to the anime year and is brilliant. Mitsuishi-sama's character is the focus in episode 3, and it is one performance fans should not miss. If you ever want to hear what she sounds like on the brink of insanity, you have to watch it. WOW. |
Puni Puni
Poemi |
Itsue Aasu A relatively minor role, but then this OVA was only two parts long, and a "sequel" to Excel Saga. She plays one of the sisters (the one with the whip) in the household that Poemi moves into. Be warned, PPP is much more ruder and gratuitous (in terms of fanservice) than Excel Saga. However, the best scene in the OVA is when Poemi says "I'm going to be a seiyuu! I'm going to work hard and appear in a great anime like Eva! I'm going to be like Mitsuishi-san!" and Mitsuishi says "I think that's impossible for you." Brilliant. ^_^ |
Sailor
Moon |
Usagi
Tsukino/Sailor Moon | Queen Serenity | Chibi Chibi Does this role really need to be described? ^^ Arguably Mitsuishi-sama most famous role that exploded her into the seiyuu world. Sailor Moon is air-headed, clumsy but still very lovable. Throughout the series you really begin to see her grow to become the beautiful Queen she is destined to be. |
Shoujo
Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena) |
Juri
Arisugawa I have only seen the Utena movie, so I'll just comment on what Juri is like in that. She doesn't have that big a part, but from I gathered, she is one of the highest ranking duellists at the Academy and has a good heart inside despite her outward attitude. (She did help Utena and Anthy escape). But the reason exactly why she duels runs rather deep and is quite sad in a way. |
Spiral
~ Suiri no Kizuna ~ |
Madoka
Narumi Yet another Mitsuishi Kotono character who has found herself into my Top 5 favorite anime female characters. Madoka's personality is best described as being most like Misato with a touch of Mireille's seriousness. She is an inspector that lives with her brother-in-law and strives to discover the whereabouts of her missing husband. Madoka has quite a few funny moments with Ayumu and others, but she is mostly serious. See my Spiral fansite for more information. (Link on left). |
Sumeba
Miyako no Cosmos-sou - Suttoko Taisen Dokkoida! |
Sayuri/Hyacinth I thought Mitsuishi-sama's role in Puni Puni Poemi was on the edge, but that is nothing compared to her character in Dokkoida! This and FMA seem to be the only 2003 anime in which she has a significant role. Anyway, Mitsuishi-sama plays the S&M masked fighter, Hyacinth, who enters the story from episode 2 and does a lot of *ahem* strange things from then on. I say no more. ^_^;; |
(Dennou
Sentai) Voogie's Angel |
Rebecca The cast for this 3 part OVA is incredible and is the reason why I wanted to see it. The story itself is nothing spectacular and the character designs and fanservice are typical of Masami Obari's works. But still, I quite like this OVA as a whole, it's funny and the seiyuu work is excellent and a definite highlight. Episode 3 has the finest screams from Mitsuishi-sama, Inoue Kikuko and Tange Sakura I have ever heard. ^_~ |
X
(movie) --IMAGE COMING SOON-- |
Satsuki
Yatouji The X movie didn't explore these brilliant CLAMP characters very well, so the manga and TV series is much better. In the TV series, Kuwashima Houko (Kirika form Noir) actually played Satsuki instead of Mitsuishi-sama. Both the movie and TV have astounding casts, but the TV series is definitely much better in terms of story/character development and stays truer to the much-acclaimed manga. Anyway, in case you didn't know, Satsuki is one of the Dragons of Earth who is a computer genius and who her computer 'The Beast' is in love with. |
