Quest 1: BullwinkleQuest 1: Bullwinkle

Bullwinkle listens to what the exhausted woman has to say, then takes her back to the village. Wondering about the situation, she keeps her eyes open and is prepared for a lot of things. She decides to look in on the village before visiting the orc camp.

You march on until you reach the village. The men are hard at work making wooden walls, forging simple swords and spears from old plowshears and turning carts on their sides. The women are preparing meals for the hungry men, mourning the loss of relatives and doing some menial tasks. The atmosphere in the village is tense, almost hostile. A cry goes up as a sentry spots a growing cloud of dust on the horizon.

Once in the village, she instructs the villagers in the best ways to defend from an orc horde. To aid them, she enlists the help of animals and she herself flies off to spy at the orcs, lending the body of a bird to do so.
In return for the animals' aid, she makes the villagers promise to look after them in difficult times.

Okay, I believe we're done here now :) I'll edit the members list to add the experience.

After listening to the woman's tale, I have decided to return with her to her village to help with their defenses. Until I arrive and see what defenses they have erected, I am not sure exactly how to approach this situation.

I feel it is incredibly foolish (or evilly brilliant) of the owner of this village and it's surrounding lands not to have kept the mercenaries (after all, he didn't pay for them did he?). As for his not wanting any fighting on his land; it has already happened! Did not the orcs begin this fight? And why did they pick this village? Why does it's owner not wish to protect his property? Is he in league with them? If so, why?

Sobering thoughts for a twenty mile hike.....

Upon reaching the village, I take careful note of the fortifications that are being hastily erected. I step back into the forest and look for Rika (whom I know is always nearby).

Rika is a large forest-cat that I had rescued as a kitten many years ago, and who has been a constant (if not always visible) companion. I have a number of such companions that also feel a sort of brotherhood with me for protecting our forest. While they cannot be "commanded", I have asked of them in the past, and they have proven to be trustworthy and formidable protectors of the forest.

I ask Rika to gather the members of her pack, as well as any of those of the wolves and bears that inhabit the region, and to organize a protective circle about the village. Many of the creatures in this forest have no love of Orcs, and would welcome the opportunity to do them harm.

I return to the village and speak with the village elders. I instruct the villagers how and where to construct pitfalls, traps and other means of dissuading the Orcs from attacking the village. I also tell them of my plans involving the animals and that, in return for the forest animals' aid, the village must not encroach further upon the forest, and that during any extremely harsh seasons they must provide food for the creatures that are helping to save their village this day. The elders gladly accept. As I am speaking with the elders, a shout goes up. A lookout has spotted a cloud of dust rising in the distance.

Realizing that I need as much information as I can get, I decide to test the amulet that was given to me by Perkin (a wizard of some potency). He had instructed me to hold it loosely in my right palm, take a deep breath (to center my energy) and "twist" my mind. I would then be able to "borrow" the body of a hawk (with his permission of course, since he is also one of my companions).

Once inside the body of the hawk, I circle the village noting the numbers of the forest creatures taking up strategic positions within the forest edge. Good. Among the score of forest-cats there are quite a number of black and brown bears, as well as more than two packs of wolves.
The villagers have made much progress in the defensive strategies I have shown them. Satisfied that I have done what I could for the village at the moment, I soar along the road toward the rising dust cloud.
