Guardians of the Weave
Adventure Summaries:
1st: The Twillight Tomb:
-Calos-Azrael-Korgoth-Zeltur---Longtooth---Tavian-
The Litorian Scout Longtooth found himself teleported to a strange world. He arrived in this new world of Toril surround by a circle of standing stones. Moment later Calos the Ratling appeared. He too had been teleported here after a battle with a Sorcerer. The two struck up a friendship and were soon joined by some Algarondi Griffon Riders. The Riders brought them back to the city of Velprintalar. They soon joined up with a newly forming adventuring party seemingly led by Baron Tavian of Cormyr. They were being sent into the Yuirwood to investigate some strange events that had been occurring recently. The party was soon met by a merchant who was seeking the recovery of an item known as the Grail of Shar-Grazar. The party accepted payment to recover the grail in their travels. Sometime later the party found their way back to the Standing stones some of the other party members had already visited. They accidentally discovered a portal and soon found themselves confined in a strange pocket dimension. All that existed here were a series of towers connected by small bridges. The party faced many undead creatures and other powerful obstacles. Eventually they came upon a tribe of orcs that was seemingly trapped here. The party befriended the orcs and agreed to help recover the platinum key that could provide the only means of escape. The party descended to the base of one of the towers to confront the possessor of this key. Before them stood a bizarre visage. It was a Girillon with a Jar embedded in his chest. Within the Jar was a brain. Apparently some form of Undead. The party defeated these creatures and recovered both the Platinum Citadel Key and the Grail of Shar-Grazar.
Savera the Yochol Sorceress, Keeper of Tavians Soul
Temple of Mystra in Weyloon
The party had recently completed their quest in the Shadowplane. They had returned to Whaeloon as heroes and were working together to transform the temple of shar into an operational temple of Mystra. The first of its kind within Cormyr’s borders. As the weeks had past more and more disturbing rumors were spreading about the mayhem occuring in Shadowdale. Many of these rumors seemed uncredable but still they persisted. Eventually at Sarn’s insistance the party elected to travel north to investigate the situation.
Winter had arrived and the Dalelands were already covered in snow. As the party trekked north the tempeture seemed to drop with every step. Not long after crossing into the outter dale the party could see a plume of smoke rising. They quickly came upon the small thorp of Oakwood Knoll. The area was littered with the dead and dying bodies of recently pillaged dalesfolk. Human and orge mecrenaries were arguing amonst themselves over the treasure divide. The party used illusion and instigated a fight between the two groups. After they had sufficently weakened each other the party attacked. The mercenaries were quickly destroyed. The party saved as many dalefolk as possible and then continued on.
Some time later as the party grew closer to Shadowdale proper they were confronted by a wand weilding wizard riding some flying monstrousity. The wizard asked their names and purpose. The party lied about their names and intentions and proceeded on. In any event the point was made. Shadowdale’s new occupants were monitoring everything. The party arrived in the town of Shadowdale to find it firmly under Zhent occupation. In addition to this forces were numerous and varied mercenary bands no doubt enlisted to bolster the Zhentish forces.
After doing some exploring the party soon found themselves contacted by a power beyond their comprehention. A glowing hand appeared pointing off in the distance. The hand was accompanied by a voice bearing a cryptic message. The party disciphered the meaning as best they could. It seemed to indicate that the magical weave was somehow unwinding and that the party should find the resting place of Sylune and Aumry. The voice the party decided, was that of the God Azuth, god of spellcasters.
(Note: Sylune was one of the Seven sisters and chosen of Mystra. Aumry was her husband and former lord of Shadowdale)The party went in the direction the hand indicated and came upon Watchers Hill. Not long after arriving the party was attacked by an undead dragon that had been concealed by an illusion. The creature was vastly powerful and forced the party to fall back. As the battle raged on the party found that the creature had no ability to deal with flying opponents and the party used this to their advantage. In the end the creature was fallen but so too was Sarn. Luckily Sarn had a summoning potion which called fourth another priest of Tempus who soon had Sarn resurrected.
Having destroyed the guardian the party was now prepared to enter what the tomb of of Sylune and Aumry. They removed a stone slab and entered a small underground chamber where sat a coffin. Before the coffin floated a strange magical creature known to arcanists as a Nishruu. The party engaged the monster and quickly defeated it. Beyond they opened the coffin and received another message from beyond. This message seemed to be coming from the spirit of Sylune. She indicated that some how her spirit was fighting a celestial battle attempting to prevent the unraveling of the magical weave being brought about by some Sharran ritual. She beckoned the party to help Shadowdale against the occupying Zhents. First by closing a portal within Castle Krag that the Zhents were using for reenforements. Next the party was to seek entrance into the Twisted Tower via underground tunnels. However she did warn of Drow from Maermydra. In the end she prophesized that the Dalesfolk would rise up and aid the heroes. After receiving this message the party opened Aumry’s tomb and retrieved a staff and a robe that Sylune said would aid them.
The party returned to the inn disguised as mercenaries and plotted their next move.
The party was resting and regrouping at the Old Skull. Cleverly disguised as mercenaries. They had continued to consider the prophetic words of Selune. The information they had pieced together indicated three separate location of evil. The first being Castle Krag where the occuppying forces of Shadowdale were rebuilding and where to dwelt a portal they could use to bring in reinforcements. The second was the Twisted Tower, where the prophecy indicated the party would need to use the underdark tunnels to reach. The third location indicated was Teshwave, an area in the lost dales under Zhentish influence. Her it was said that Shar was working her dark ritual that was causing the Tearing of the Weave. The party elected to tackle these threats in this order and so it was off to Castle Krag.
Winter was in a full effect in the Dales and as a result visibility was very poor. This made reconoitering the Castle diffcult. Calos snuck around and found Ettins in the courtyard using human slaves to rebuild Castle Krag. These forces had already made great progress in rebuilding the ruined castle in such a short period of time. The party snuck around back the castle and scaled the tower. They dropped into the now empty courtyard and began exploring the inner rooms of the castle. Within they battled past Ettins, Gnolls, and Evil Clerics. They collected a great deal of treasure and eventually cleared out all the ground level areas of the castle. This left only the subterranean level and the party still had not located the human slaves whom the Ettins had already brought back in from the courtyard.
Before proceeding into the depths Calos went outside into the courtyard to search. He disabled a number of traps before being attacked by a pair of Maugs (Large Stone Golem like creatures). He quickly retreated back to party within the Castle walls. The party then descended into the subterranean level where they immediately encountered a group of skeletons and an evil cleric. As the battle commenced a Dread Wraith attacked from beyond the stone walls. This undead was none other than the disembodied soul of Jyordan, former lord of Shadowdale and Zhentarium agent. Calos imprisoned Jyordan in a Resilient Force Sphere while the party dealt with the other threats. After the battle the party found a portal beyond a secret door. They needed to clear out the rest of the area however and at least rescue the human slaves. However the force sphere would not hold Jyordan for long.
-10-19-2011—(3,420 XP)—(Party XP total: 42,190)
The party had stopped the spreading dead magic area and immediately had hunted down Esvelve Graymantle and destroyed her. Shadowdale was still under Zhentish occupation and many forces of evil were still about their work. Among those aligned against the Dales were The Church of Shar, Bane, and Cyric as well as the Zhents and the Drow of House Dhurniv. The party was aware of these forces but exactly where and what they were doing was still a mystery. The party’s next move would be based upon information given them by Sylune before her final passing. She had told the party to seek entrance into the twisted tower and to unmask the false lord. In the party’s perception it seemed they would need access the underdark tunnels beneath the Lair of Allokair to gain entrance into the dungeon’s beneath the Twisted Tower. These tunnels the party had been informed, were infested with the forces of House Dhurniv.
The party took a small break to liquidate some items and reprovision then they returned to Allokair’s lair. They descended into the Grinding Gulf to gains access to the Underdark Tunnels. They were almost immediately attacked by a giant Shadow Spider. The party managed to kill the monster before being knocked off into the Gulf. The party had acquired extensive maps of the tunnels and would use these maps and their geographical knowledge of where the Shadowdale was to try to get up under The Twisted Tower. After a short travel they came upon a Drow outpost of House Dhurniv. The party killed the group and proceeded on. The party next passed an altar to Llloth which they left alone. As they neared the Twisted Tower they soon encountered and destroyed another Drow Outpost. Beyond that area a Beholder guarded a bridge. The party prepared well and was able to destroy the dangerous creature. After crossing an underground river the party gained access to the dungeon level of the Twisted Tower.
Once within the dungeons of the Twisted Tower the party battled undead Baneguard’s and a Banelar (naga-type creature). With Sarn’s power the party defeated these foul creatures. The party next managed to rescue a few dozen Shadowdale citizens that were being held captive in prison cells. Among these prisoners were the parents of Lord Mourngrym and a powerful dwarf forge. The party used a Feather Tolken Swanboat so the dwarf could ferry the folks to safety while they explored onward. The party would need to complete their exploration of the dungeon level before proceeding

The party was still exploring the dungeons beneath the twisted tower. They soon made their way into the tower above. They used a controlled illusion of an ogre mercenary who was escorting prisoners (the party) through the tower. The tower was heavily occupied by Zhent forces and hundreds more were gathering right outside. Eventually the party buckled down and let Calos explore in stealth. The cunning Ratling located the room of Lord Mourngrym and returned with the party. Almost immediately Mourngrym took up arms as the party yelled they were there to help. In the end the party had to beat Mourngrym into unconsciousness. That done the party teleported to Aumry’s Tomb to regroup.
The following morning the party had trouble recessicatting Mourngrym. They soon discovered he was some sort of evil construct. Many of the party’s magics were not working properly on the lord. This was until Calos destroyed a 10x10 cube of the Shadow weave and brought Mourngrym in that area. Once inside this area Mourngryms body went limp but he was now able to communicate with his eyes. The party figured out a system to communicate as such. It seemed Mourngrym had been possessed by a Shadow Simulacrum of Prince Ydertanthul. This is why Mourngrym appeared to make peace with the Zhents and was now aiding them. Now Mourngrym was free inside this small area of dead shadow magic but he could not leave. The party would need help and so Mourngrym sent them to nearby Freedale to seek the aid of Tarran the Elflord.
The party arrived in Freedale to find Tarran raising forces to fight. Tarran returned with the party to Mourngrym and was able to help the party reach a grim conclusion. The only means they had to get rid of the possession in Mourngrym would be to kill him. So Mourngrym after much hesitation killed himself and the party had him immediately revivified. He was now free of possession. The party struggled with what to do next and decided they needed more information. They sent their agents into town and divined with the gods. Answers were sparse but it seemed the townsfolk were ready to fight but lacked training and weapons. Even if that problem could be solved they would still need more reinforcements. This is what lead the party to seek the Druid’s circle.
Upon reaching the standing stones outside town the party encountered a Moon Dog named Cooteu. He explained the druids were not currently in the area but that he could find them and get them to help if the party could help him. It seemed this Cooteu was up until recently the leader of the Moon Shadow Pack. A massive pack of legendary wolves who have lived secretly in the Shadowdale area for centuries. Unfortunately Cooteu had recently been dethroned as leader of the pack by a new comer. An enormously powerful Winter Wolf named Frostbite. Cooteu was now asking the party to help him regain his pack in exchange for his help. The party could either attack the pack as a whole or one of the party could battle Frostbite one and one for the lordship of the pack. Tavian wanted to battle one and one and the party considered this the most direct means to achieve what they desired.
They came upon the pack and the challenge was made. Frostbite proved to be a challenger the likes of which the party had not seen before. Tavian was landing his powerful blows but Frostbite could take it. As the battle waged on Tavian began to buckle, Panic even. Calos was forced to secretly and magically intervene. Other mysterious magics seemed to intervene to aid the near death Tavian. In the end through the will of forces both known and unknown Tavian was permitted to succeed. Frostbite called for parlay. The challenge was over, the pack was now Tavian’s, and Frostbite was banished.
Sometime later the party was met by a pixie messenger sent on behalf of Azalar Falconhand. Azalar had gone into the forest after being saved by the party. He was seeking aid as well and now had an idea. Long ago there existed secret magic portals known as Crossroads within the realms. These paths and portals were administered and protected by the Fey creatures of the land. At some point a terrible creature came to use these portal. A terrible monstrosity known as the Susurrus. In response the Fey were forced to trap the creature within the magical network of portals. These plan succeeded but it meant no one could use these cross roads. Azalar proposed the party could slay the monster this earning the aid of the Fey and access of the Crossroads.
The party traveled to one such portal nearby where they were met a ghostly Satyr (A Crossroads Guardian). They convinced the Satyr of this arrangement and soon Azalar was drawing the beast out of the portal. The party descended on the beast hammering away with steel and spell. The monster suffered great damage and now sought to flee. It too incorporeal form and began to fly away. The party would have to fly, teleport, Dimension hop, anything to keep up and not let this beast free unto the world. In the end the party brought the Susurrus down low. It seemed the Fey were greatly and the party was immediately awarded the service of four Pegasus.

The Party was still trying to raise forces for Shadowdale whilst also attempting to rally the people of the Dale to insurrection. They were soon rejoined by Azalar Falconhand. With the party having defeated the Sussurus the Fey creatures would now come to the aid of Shadowdale. It was Azalar’s idea now for the party to recover the True Pendant of Ashaba. Presentation of this relic to the people would go a long way to inspire the Dalesfolk. According to Azalar’s sources the Pendant was in the depths of the Skull Subterreans. Hence the party would return to the Drow infested tunnels beneath the Dale.
They entered once again via the Grinding Gulf in the Lich’s Gauntlet. Calos utilized his Prying Eyes spell to scout out the tunnels while Sarn casted a Locate Object spell. They had a direction and a cursory recon of the area ahead. As they explored it soon seemed apparent that none of the known tunnels lead to the area the party was seeking. Now they would try to find a hidden way. This took them northerly to a chamber where sat Xullrae Dhuurniv, powerful Priestess and fire elemental savant. She sat atop a platform in meditation before a massive ring of fire that would later be revealed to be a portal to the Elemental Plane of Fire. The party defeated her but were once again at a dead end. The party back tracked to the south to a large water filled area they had been before. From the water arose a massive Shadow-slain Fang Dragon (Shadowfang). Shadowfang it seemed was put here as a guardian but being a wise and greedy dragonkind he elected to demand a toll from the party. He even went so far as to give over information in exchange for gold. This is how the party found the secret passage that would lead them to their destination.
In the tunnels beyond the party battled past dozens of Kuo-Toans and Drow Warriors. Beyond these soldiers the party was ambushed by two Quaggoth Barbarians. In the chamber beyond the party came upon Aunrae Dhuurniv. The Second of three Matron Sisters that now ruled House Dhuurniv. Aunrae, a powerful Priestess of Lloth was ready for the party as they entered. Her divine wards and spells were formidable but in the end she could not stand against the onslaught of the party. In the rooms beyond the party found human slaves taken from the Dales. They rescued them and proceeded to explore Aunrae treasure chamber. Within this chamber the party would face her personal guardian. A Lodestone Marauder under the control of House Dhuurniv. This beast was massive and had magical properties that allowed it to manipulate magnetism. This proved difficult for the party as their weapons were flung about the room and their armor turned into sandbags. The party did however persevere.
Within Aunrae’s personally belongings the party stumbled across a virtual treasure trove of information. Dozens of secret letters and correspondence of House Dhuurniv. Within was revealed the pacts made by Esvelve Greycastle, many of which the party already knew about. Now too the party would find the many secret dealings of House Dhuurniv. Aside from them being allied with Banites, Zhents, the Church of Sharr, and the Vhaerunian Drow, They were secretly dealing with the new true elven rulers of Myth Drannor. They were seeking recognition of the drow claim of Shadowdale in exchange for information betraying their current allies. As all true drow they were playing both sides. Some of this deception it seemed was already suspected on the party of the Zhentarium. With their Lord Scylia Darkhope leading their armies many of the dealings of the Zhentarium had fallen to a man named Aragul who seemed at least in the missives to be distrustful of House Dhuurniv and their intentions.
With this new information and now with the True Pendant of Ashaba the party felt optimistic for the first time. The Scouring of Shadowdale was indeed at hand but as in the decades and centuries past the forces of good were gathering to make their stand.
(3-27-2013)
The party Sold some magic items while they regrouping. They infiltrated Myth Drannor through flight and stealth and met with Queen Ilsevele Miritar. They returned to her the powerful elven Warblade they had recovered in the Underdark.
Sutter, Calos, and Tavian were still struggling to free Shadowdale from the Zhenterium. Sarn had disembarked and joined the forces battling in Myth Drannor. As that battle began to change in their favor Sarn sent Arametheus, Gedrin, and Maxim back to Shadowdale to help the party.
It had come to the party’s attention that some hostages had been taken and were to be executed to punish the populace. Essentially being punished for the party’s deeds. It was incumbent ion the party to rescue these hostages. The party ambushed the group on the bridge. There were Ogre ravagers and Zhentarium warriors. Callos hit the group with an illusion spell which made it appear as though a massive feast was before them and they were compelled to eat. Those who did not fall victim to the illusion were killed quickly. The party gathered the hostages as Arametheus used a Wall of Force to hinder the villians from following the party once the illusion had worn off. Furthermore Callos used a massive silent image to make it appear that the party had fled in a different direction. The party then got the hostages to safety.
As the party proceeded they soon came head on with a group of Zhentarium skycaptains riding upon Fouldrakes and battle ensued. The party rode their Pegaseus’s against these foes. The engagement raged across the sky and the ground. There was much bloodshed and the party was victorious. After this battle the party returned to the Tomb of Aumry for some needed respite. It was decided that Sutter would scout outside and that’s when he fell victim to an attack. Sutter backed into the Tomb to rejoin the party as these creatures pursued. They were Balhannoths, formidable tentacle aberrations with anti-magic powers. The party managed to bottleneck the monsters in the entrance way and eventually defeat them.
Not long after Sutter did scout into Shadowdale and came to find that the insurrection had begun. It was all out war. Unfortunately the Zhentish ruler of Shadowdale, Scyllua Darkhope had returned with reinforcements. The people of Shadowdale were being defeated. It was time for the party to engage to turn the tide of battle. Scyllua was accompanied by Erynes devils and other dark riders. The battle was fierce but in the end Scyllua was beheaded. Her nightmare turned ethereal and escaped with most of her body.
The Zhents had been defeated and repelled. Shadowdale was once again free. Mourngrym stepped down as leader and the people turned to the party for a new leader. The party appointed Azalar Falconhand to this task.
(-3-22-15)
The months after the events in Cormyr saw a great deal of turmoil. A greater disruption upon the power of Mystra causes many of Mystra’s chosen to weaken. Selune died, and others fled. The elves had resettled Myth Drannor only to be assaulted by the Demonfey and House Jaerle (drow). As there wars waged Fzoul Chembryl, Chosen of Bane and Lord of Zhentil keep watched for an opportunity. Esvelve Graycastle of Shar offered him just that. The worshippers of Shar struck an alliance with Zhentil Keep. They would shatter the weave around Shadowdale so the Zhents could take it. Fzoul dispatched his general Sylia Darkhope on this crusade. The Sharites destroyed Elminster’s tower and seemingly killed the arch wizard. Then the Zhentarium took control anew of Shadowdale.
The party arrived in Shadowdale and began to build a resistance. They defeated Esvelve Graycastle and the lich Allokair along with their minions. They released Lord Mourngrym from possession and in the end took back Shadowdale. In the east the elves of Myth Drannor were victorious and all was set right. The party installed Azalar Falconhand as new Lord of Shadowdale and returned the Warblade to the ruler of Myth Drannor (Coronal Lady ILsevele Miritar).
Part 1: Windsong Tower:It was the year 1376 DR. In the previous winter the party had liberated Shadowdale and once again stopped the machinations of the followers of Shar. During these events the party came to hear the name of a villain seemingly working behind the scenes. This was Prince Yder Tanthul of Thultanthar (one of the prices of Shade and worshipper of Shar). That is who Esvelve was working for. In correspondence between the two, The Book of Black and the Black Chronology was discussed at length. It seemed Esvelve had had a copy of the Book of Black but fragments were missing. The Prince was trying to discover what in the Black Chronology had inspired The Dark Diviners to write the Leaves of One Night. He said there was much to ponder in the ravings of Augathra the Mad. The correspondence revealed the Shar worshippers intention to enter the Windsong tower in Myth Drannor and to search the chambers of Raanaghaun and Shar Cormrael’s chambers.
The party was concerned over this and began their own research. It seemed the Windsong was seven centuries ago a great school of magic within the elven realm of Myth Drannor. Raanaghaun and Shar Cormrael (Not Shar the god) were diviners in this place. Whatever secrets they unlocked the Prince of Shade was now after. One of the few ways to enter the ruins of the tower were with the magical rings the Diviners once used. The party had recovered one such ring in their previous adventure. With this in hand they traveled to Myth Drannor to launch an investigation. They met with Lady Miritar, Lord of Myth Drannor. They also encountered Mourngrym now lending a hand with business in the elven kingdom. The party also encountered a bard named Kelloren who was singing a song of sadness that seemed to have relevance. He explained that the words of this song had been told to him in a dream by an elf dressed in green. The song indicated that words had been stolen from Golden leaves from tree beneath a tower. That the living needed to recover what was taken or else magic would fail gods and men.
Later that day a talking Raven promised information about a lost tree and told the party to meet with its master, one Mistress Keevosen Nihili. This turned out to be an ambush. Keevosen was revealed to be a Shade Shadow Wizard. She ambushed the party with four werewolves. The party won the battle, however Keevosen escaped. Three of the werewolves were turned over to the elves. The next morning the party used their Windsong ring which could grant entrance into the Windsong tower via any portal within a mile of the tower. So the party used the portal at the Natural Society. In any event they found themselves standing on the floor of the center tower. The school had consisted of a central tower and then 2 tree towers that stood on each side (The Windsong Erie and the Shadowsong Tree). The central tower was now totally destroyed. Only its floor remained. Upon the floor were two interlocking portal glyphs. The party could activate one but not the other. The party gained entrance to the Windsong Erie and explored it finding little of note. They then used the portal in the ruins of the main tower to gain entrance into The Shadowsong Tree. These towers were filled with numerous extra-dimensional rooms and halls and portals that interconnected both towers. This made it difficult for the party to explore or even to know which tower they were in.
As they explored the party was encountered two guardians at different times. Both appeared as Gold haired incorporeal elves with green cloths. They looked similar but not the same really. They both told the party to leave. Both times the party failed to prevent the guardians from attacking. On both occasions the guardian was defeated and disintegrated back into the air. During the second battle the party learned that they should not cast anything from the teleportation school within the towers as doing so would result in you first being trapped in a void and then several minutes later being expelled outside the tower. The used this to escape the tower and to then return to Myth Drannor to rest and regroup.

Sutter was born in the city of Thultanthar, better known in Faerun as the City of Shade. Thultanthar was long ago one of the floating cities of the Netherese Empire. The great wizards of Shade had planeshifted the entire city into the Shadow Plane. There the city remained for nearly 1500 years. Not long after the disappearance of Thultanthar, a Weave corruption caused all the floating Netherese cities to crash into the ground. The empire crumbled and in time was swallowed by the sands of what today is known as The Anarauch desert. Only a few years ago the City of Shade reappeared in Faerun floating above the Anarauch. The human line now infused with Shadow. For a time Sutter was a member of the Shadian army and even took part in the battle that destroyed the city of Tilverton. Sutter was later dispatched as a spy to infiltrate and keep tabs on the church of Mystra. But he found himself touched by the goddess and abandoned his original mission. He now serves Mystra and does not maintain contact with his people.
Calos was born to a Nomadic Ratling tribe of the Shadowlands in the distant realm of Kara-Tur. When he was but a teenager he wandered into a wild magic area known to be dangerous. As a result he unwittingly found himself cast through a portal that deposited him into the Ruins of Myth Drannor. He barely escaped into the woods of Cormanthor. He survived for a time living in the sewers and dark places in the larger towns of the western dales. Eventually he came to Shadowdale. One place where perhaps a Ratman might find acceptance. He survived through stealth and theivery. One night while stealing food from one of the Shadowdale farms he came across some strange magical runes on a door. Within the basement of the farm he found an Alchemist lab. While pilfering through it he became trapped. The farm belonged to an Illusionist named Abyn Fantar. Abyn lived in secret in Shadowdale and now his secret was out. Instead of disposing of the Ratman he took Calos on for help. Eventually Calos learned the art of Illusion.
Tavian was born to a Cormyrian Noble family in Arabel. His father being Baron Moonshadow. Much of Tavian’s destiny was predetermined by the Baron but Tavian would eventually choose his own path with the secret support of his mother. Tavian was to become a Purple Dragon Knight but instead choose to seek out the church of Mystra as his mother was a mage. He impressed quickly and soon joined the Knightly Order of the Mystic Fire.
Sarn is from Battledale. Raised in Essembra and then trained at the Abbey of the sword.
