Greyhawk Armageddon Campaign

The Party

The world of Oerth has seen catastrophe and cataclysm. It has endured despite the meddling of powers both benevolent and diabolic. But now the most ancient of the prime material worlds is reaching its Terminus. The heroes of legend and legacy know the fate of their world. But the will of such heroes is forged of flame beyond the comprehension of those who would bring about dissolution. A stand will be made, a battle will be fought, and Armageddon is at hand.

-1st-The Coming Darkness:
-Baalthazar-Wally-Popaxe-Caldwell-Markos-
Each of the party members were summoned to Mordenkainen’s obsidian citadel. There they took part in a meeting of the world’s greatest heroes. Among those present were the entire circle of eight, Regdar and his party, Lord Melf Brightflame, Drayo the Dark, Targalen the Elf Lord, Krust the disgusting, Drax the invulnerable, Tenser, and many others. Mordenkainen informed these men of the coming end of days. It had been revealed to Mordenkainen by the Mad God Zagyg that the Multiverse would end. Oerth would be the first light to be extinguished. This one fact indicated that the source of ultimate undoing would originate on the world of Greyhawk. A short list was compiled of those who could be responsible and the heroes broke off to locate and determine the status of these individuals. Baalthazar’s party was tasked with locating Sith Theigis. When last the party had encountered Theigis he was maintaining the High Wizard’s tower in the capitol city of Raxes. (Raxes was the capitol of the fallen Great Kingdom formerly ruled by King Ivid V). The party utilize Phantom Steeds to reach the city and found it in ruins. As expected The Wizards tower was the only intact structure in the ruined city. Encamped about the city was an army of hundreds of fiend knights led by a group of Maruts (Enromous Planar armored constructs). The party attempted various means by which to infiltrate the tower without dealing with the army. Often times they needed a spell they had not memorized and elected to rest out entire days in order to obtain the spell on the following morning. The heroes had not yet grown to appreciate the urgency of the coming Armegeddon. In the end it was Wally who infiltrated the tower by disintegrating one wall of force, which barred their entrance. The party quickly negotiated the tower and reached Sith’s summoning chamber. There they found a 6 foot mirror which when activated brought the Pit fiend Scratch into view. Scratch was surprised to see the party. In the past the party had maintained a civil relationship with Scratch. But during this discussion the party saw fit to antagonize the evil creature. Before the conversion ended the party had discerned that Sith had gone and was not expected to return. Scratch had offered a trade of information but that had faded as communications had broken down. Eventually Scratch disappeared telling the party to stay right where they were. A few moments later the forces of Sith Theigis stormed into the tower. They were led by non other then the Planar general Noth Dreadrin, a Marut of awesome power. The party was content to flee but Popaxe could not withstand a challenge from Dreadrin. A battle ensued and the party was soon enlightened to the awesome destructive capabilities of Noth Dreadrin. Popaxe was nearly killed before Caldwell could teleport the party out. The party next sought other options to no avail. Eventually after many divinations the party elected to try and find a Theigis by finding his servant Pestilence. A Discern location spell provided the creatures location. Pestilence was currently located in the mountain to the North East of The Sea of Dust within the ruins of the ancient Suelese city of Lo Prokor. The party arrived there to find a hole tunneled deep into the earth and into one of the ruined structures which once occupied the city. Inside they found Pestilence standing next to an altar. Upon the altar said a book containing arcane scriptures. Next the book lied The Codex of Infinite Planes. A supremely powerful artifact said to hold the capabilities of opened a gate to any realm as well as other more sinister powers untold. Legend tell that those who seek to learn the powers of the Codex will be doomed to madness. Beyond the altar was Stonehenge standing some 10 feet in height. The party quickly subdued Pestilence who balanced all logical decisions and eventually came to the conclusion that his best opportunity to live would be to totally betray his master and tell the party whatever they wanted to know. He told them Theigis had used the gate to travel back in time. He had said his master’s intent was to change his ultimate fate. Pestilence told the party that Theigis had used a Silver Skull (The one recovered from the Tomb of Horrors) as a focus to reach his destination in the past. The party decided they would have to follow him but would need a similar focus. Among Theigis’s notes was numerous sketches of other items similar to the skull. Among the symbols was one that looked strangely like the late Luvien’s Mask. (Luvien was the man who had originally brought the party together.). The party performed a discern location which led them a cemetery in Greyhawk where sat the grave of Luvien. Inside the party found Luvien’s remains and removed the mask. Beneath the Mask was the mysterious symbol that party had seen many times before. The same symbol was on Luvien’s temple that the party had seen on the temple of Theigis, Vecna, and the Skull of Acerak. The same symbol which was inscribed on some of the party members rings which that had owned since birth. With the silver mask in hand the party returned to the gateway in the ruined Suelese city. They would need another night of rest and then they would proceed to follow Sith Theigis back through the annals of time

-2nd-Future Imperfect:
-Baalthazar-Popaxe-Wally-
The party found themselves summoned to a meeting at Mordenkainen’s Obsidian Citadel. Not more then a few moments into the meeting the party began to realize they had lived this moment before. Suddenly they realized that their last memory was resting in a Sulese city planning to follow Sith Theigis back in time. Mordenkainen eventually asked the party members to leave as they were most disruptive to the meeting. The party decided to return to Greyhawk city. There they began to realize that they had conflicting memories of many events. They concluded that the timeline had been changed and somehow their proximity to the Gate or perhaps the codex had allowed them to keep their memories. They began to piece together what was different. Soon they realized that in the new timeline they had never had any interaction with Sith Theigis. In fact it was as though Theigis never even existed. They soon found themselves once again searching for the mask of Luvien as they would inevitably have to follow Sith back in time as they had originally intended. The party was shocked to learn that in this timeline Luvien still lived. They went to speak with him and found the party led by Marzden serving Luvien much as they once had. It seemed in this timeline the party had served Luvien for a time and had also cast Vecna into the void. But during that battle Einhonder was killed. Following those events the party had grown suspicious of Luvien and his unwillingness to fully disclose information to them. They service to Luvien had ended there. The party’s initial meeting with Luvien proved combative but the party soon returned as they felt Luvien was the only one with any answers. When asked by Theigis Luvien explained that was a young boy of no consequence that died over a millennium ago. The parties suspicious were soon confirmed when Luvien revealed he was from the distant past and had traveled to this time aided by the Chronomancer Duetronemer (Whom that party had once met as a ghost) to thwart Vecna. Luvien was apparently a great diviner and had seen Vecna’s intent to rule the world and eventually destroy it. He had seen heroes capable of stopping Vecna and had come forward and harvested these heroes for this ultimate cause. Luvien had created the rings and given them the party’s parents when they were very young. Promising the rings would protect the children. In fact the rings served to make the party members invisible to the eyes of the whispered one. In the party’s original timeline Luvien had been killed by Sith Theigis before he could reveal any of this the party. Non-the less the party had stopped Vecna in his bid for total control of Oerth. This event had occurred in both timelines. But in this new timeline the party members had never conquered the Tomb of Horrors and Acerak maintained a Domain that now infringed on the world of Oerth.. Luvien seemed cooperative to discuss almost anything except anything pertaining to a certain event. He told the party that he believed the boy Thievish may have been killed as a side effect of this event. He also told the party that the Mask and the Skull were 2 of eight items created by Lyzandred for a mysterious organization. At the end of this difficult exchange it was agreed that the party would travel back into the past and try to prevent whatever had been changed. Luvien would aid them but they would need the Codex of Infinite Planes. The party next went to where they last saw the Codex. In the chamber beneath the ruined Sulese city. The chamber was much as they remembered it but it had not been disturbed. Of course it hadn’t because Sith Theigis never lived to come there. The pasty performed a discern location and learned the Codex was held in the cloud fortress of Thunderhead located above the country of Keoland. They eventually found there way there and found the Cloud Castle to be the source of a massive electrical storm. The party infiltrated the castle killing Iron Golems and Cloud Giants alike. Eventually they reached the main tower and came into conflict with the Storm Master who ruled the castle. The Giant proved to be a powerful adversary but soon fell to the parties combined might. But before the giant fell he summoned a massive Force Dragon to avenge him. The dragon wreaked havoc on the party but eventually Wally unleashed an assault which laid the serpent low. The party had recovered the Codex and for the second time they intended to transverse time and enter into the distant past.

-3th-Both Beginning and End:
-Baalthazar-Wally-Popaxe-Caldwell-
The party was now living in an altered timeline. They had to travel back in time to correct the changes. They had recovered the Codex if infinite planes and were returning to Greyhawk city. Luvien met them and already had everything in place. He had the party teleport him to the Ruins of the ancient Suelese city of Lo Nakar. There the party met the Gray Philosopher known as Duetronomer. The ghost had aided the party once before when they were very young. Apparently in life Duetronomer was once a powerful Chronomancer. Using his knowledge Luvien was able to give Wally all the incantations he would need to activate the Time gate. Once inside the gate the party immediately met Caldwell within a Maelstrom. This caught them off guard, as in this new timeline Caldwell was dead. In fact Caldwell had come back from the original timeline. Inside this nexus the party could see time passing in reverse. But there were two separate stories. Eventually the stories merged into one. The party was now passing the point in which the timeline was changed. They exited the nexus and the gate to enter into the distant past some thousand years ago. There they found themselves in the fully functional city of Lo Nakar. The city served as a border outpost for the massive and powerful Suel Imperium. The party snuck around and created a commotion. Soon they saw a wizard named Duetronomer coming. It seemed this was the Chronomancers tower in this time. Caldwell took on the appearance of Duetronomer so as to interact with the people of the city. But soon the real Duetronomer appeared. Seeing himself there Duetronomer assumed something had happened in the near future and that he himself had coming back. Understand the danger inherent to interaction while time traveling Duetronomer agreed to try and forget the event. Now that they were in the past it was time for the party to try and locate Sith Theigis. They utilized a Discern location and learned that Sith was in the Tower of Necromancy in the Suel Capitol. They teleported near the city and made their way in. The capitol city was huge with many towers and massive military forces which held dragons in its ranks. The party searched the tower of Necromancy to no avail. They soon realized that the city was located in very close relation to the standing stones of Tovag Baragu. They traveled there in the night and were astonished at what they found. In the center of the standing stones a group of wizards was gathering. It was the Consortium of Socery. The greatest wizards of the Suel Imperium. Among their ranks was Lyzandred the Conjurer displaying a silver gate (note: Lyzandred lives in the present as a mad lich who maintains a crypt laden with puzzles and other insanity), Keraptis the Enchanter displaying a silver coin (Keraptis later became a lich and his psyche lived on a spell plague passed in a spell book), Luvien the Diviner displaying a silver mask, Acererak the Necromancer displaying a silver skull, and 4 other wizards whose names would be lost to time. Soon the greatest of their number arrived. It was the lich known as Vecna displaying the silver symbol of Evocation. The wizards debated about some task they were about to perform. Eventually the wizards began to cast a massive unified incantation. During this time the party found the young boy Sith Theigis spying on the event. They knew the boy would soon die. And as they expected Death appear. Sith Theigis the ancient black wizard appeared. He warned the party to leave and they could not oblige. He explained that it was only his intention to kill the younger version of himself. It seemed Theigis knew his time in this realm was ending. He also knew that due to the massive number of terrible acts he had performed he was damned to an eternity of suffering in the next world. It was his ill-conceived plan to murder himself in his innocence before he ever could become the thing he now was. The party had a different kind of end in mind. Caldwell immediately removed the child theigis from the equation by mazing him. As the battle began it seemed Theigis was going easy to try not to kill the party. But the party’s power had doubled since last they had encountered Theigis. And soon massive invocations were being thrown about. Caldwell stood strong against the Necromancer and in the end Theigis could not stand against the combined might of the heroes. With the Wail of the Banshee Theigis was slain. As he fell the Consortium of Socery was completing their massive incantation. An enormous burst of energy shot up into the sky and then began to shoot across the clouds to the north. Baalthazar was the first to realize what they were witnessing. The energy came down in the north in what was at that time the ancient Baklunish Empire. In a moment the empire was incinerated in a massive magical explosion. The aftermath of the incantation left a floating symbol burned into air at the focal point of the consortium. The gods who watched their subjects slain would burn this symbol in to the temples of those who had done such a thing. Neither test of time nor transition of existence would ever wash away this symbol. The party had seen this symbol many times on the face of their enemies. Now they too would bear the symbol. The party had killed Theigis and knew it was now time to vacate. They began to gather themselves when Vecna came upon them. This was a battle the party would not choose to face in any time. Caldwell broke the silver mask, which was the catalyst to send the party home. Caldwell disappeared. Popaxe broke his mask as well and Vecna watched as Popaxe, Wally, and Baalthazar erupted into the oblivion of those who never existed. Caldwell was the only one to return home to the proper timeline. There he found Wally, Baalthazar, Popaxe, and Markos Bowmen right were he had left them (The end of Module 1). In the original timeline were Caldwell had come from the other party members were unable to enter the gate. They had remained here and viewed the events of what had occurred. The Ghost of the Duetronomer and 3 other similar figures briefly met them party. Things had been set right.

-4th-Die Vecna Die!: Part One: Tovag Baragu
-Baalthazar-Einhonder-Wally-Popaxe-Caldwell-
The party returned to the present to find Oblivion still looming. Sith Theigis was now dead and it seemed he was not the one who was set to bring about terminus of the Multiverse. The party tried to locate Modenkainen but failed. Instead they met with one of Mordenkainen’s assistants who explained that Tenser had also returned. Tenser had gathered the information that IUZ had vacated his throne of power in Dorakka and had taken Tovag Barugu. This bizarre event in conjunction with the current situation unnerved the heroes. They would soon travel to Tovag Barugu once more. The following night Baalthzar, Wally, and Popaxe all had visions of a Gray Philosopher divesting into them. When they awoke they now had first hand memories of what had occurred in the past. And they now wore the symbol of the consortium of sorcery. Baalthazar awoke to find his clerics had no powers. He began to pray to Wee Jas to find her not answering. He pleaded with her and she responded. The goddess seemed to display the idea that there was no longer any purpose to maintain her connection with her worshippers. She too knew of the coming Oblivion and considered it unavoidable. Still Baalthzar pleaded. What ever was to come, unavoidable or not, he intended to stand against it. Perhaps for no other reason then to reward his valor Wee Jas Obliged her instrument of death. “Do not fail” was her final command. Popaxe awoke to less amicable encounter. Noth Dreadrin came knocking at his door and then start knocking on Popaxe. The Marut’s power was unrelenting as he smashed Popaxe out of the Whistling fish and began to beat him down the streets of Greyhawk. All the while demanded to know the whereabouts of Sith Theigis. Just as Dreadrin was about to end the days of the King of King of Dwarves there was magical reaction. The quest Sword was activated and Einhonder the Paladin appeared to stand between his friend and the fate of death. This was a stand Einhonder had made so many times before. Dreadrin persisted to crush both heroes. Soon the ancient wizard Leomund arrived by way of a folding wagon. He was able to forecage the monster and Dreadrin opted to retreat. Leomund explained that Mordenkainen had called upon him to protect the city in the absence of the circle of eight. The party was not too comforted as it seemed just the casting of the forcecage spell had sufficiently drained the ancient wizard. Popaxe and Einhonder convened with Wally and Baalthazar at the temple of Wee Jas. The party decided it was time to go to Tovag Barugu and perhaps face IUZ. They made a stop at the wizard’s guild for supplies and information. Next they entered the grove of Drayo the dark. Drayo was not present as he, Targalen, and Krust had originally been sent to Tovag Barugu to assess the threat of Vecna. Instead the party came to the towers of Caldwell. Caldwell was at first uncooperative but as always Caldwell resigned to stand against the eminent threat. The party teleported to Tovag Barugu to find an interesting scene. Apparently the army of IUZ had entered the standing stones and a battle had ensued. The remains of a massive magical explosion was evident. The inner ring of the standing stones now held numerous magical gates. The party traveled through one such gate to find a replicant version of Tovag Barugu but the surrounding area was different. In this replicant version there were more gates. Through each successive gate was yet another version of Tovag Barugu. And beyond each gate was one or more other gates essentially forming an interdimensional Labyrinth. The party briefly encountered 2 Urophions (Roper/Illithiad Hybrids) but slaughtered them quickly. In fact the more the party traveled the more resistance they faced. Among those who would fall to the party this day were Cultists, wizards, Vilewights, and Great Ogres. The ogres it seemed were the shock troops of Vecna’s army. Some of them had been set up to maintain positions within the labyrinth. The cultists the party encountered were members of the cult of vecna and it seemed they were of great numbered within this vile realm. The party enjoyed much success until they reached the ice realm replicant. There a massive great wyrm white dragon lied in wait of new comers. As the party entered the dragon dropped an ice wall over the portal they had come through. The party met the massive beast in battle but the dragon was simply too monstrous. It killed Wally with its breath weapon and swallowed Einhonder whole. Baalthazar too fell to the creature’s wrath. Only Caldwell was still alive. He opened a Mordenkainen’s mansion and managed to pull Baalthzar inside. He utilized a limited wish to return Baalthzar to the land of the living. They two heroes healed up and prepared to go fourth and recover the bodies of their compatriots. They exited the mansion to find that the dragon had left. A quick search revealed the serpent was flying away off in the distance. Caldwell summoned Phantom steeds and the pursuit began. The dragon did not see nor sense them coming and Caldwell’s Meteor Swarm was the last thing the dragon would ever see again. The dragon’s guts exploded the massive wyrm glided to fiery crash. Within the mass of charred dragon scale that remained the party recovered the body of Wally and the Quest Sword that now housed and protected Einhonder. The party returned to the mansion and rested up. They continued their exploration of even more replicant versions of Tovag Barugu. In one bizarre replicant the part encountered a gnome adventure named Orlanko. Orlanko explained he had fled the army of IUZ and entered into the labyrinth. He had been exploring it for some time and seemed to love it. He had even made himself nice refuge within one sealed off replicant. It was Orlanko who explained that some how the power of Tovag Barugu was replicating new prime material planes. He told the heroes that most of the replicant worlds only spanned a matter of miles before fading into oblivion. But these realms were growing. He went on to explained that this network of transitive planes was the base of operations for the cult of Vecna. Somewhere within this network lied a complex known as the Adytum were the power structure of the cult resided. The party pushed on until eventually they existed a gate to find themselves within a complex. They had reached this Adytum and were closing in upon their fate.

-5th-Die Vecna Die!: Part 2: The Adytum:
-Baalthazar-Einhonder-Wally-Popaxe-Caldwell-
The party had tracked IUZ out of Tovag Baragu through a stone gateway to another plane. They now stood within the Adytum, a complex maintained by the worshippers of Vecna. Within the complex they faced uncountable adversaries protecting the complexes contents. Among the forces they had to overcome were Golems, undead minions, True ghouls, Stone guardians, ogres, Gorgons, cultists, and many more. The inner sanctum contained vaults containing pieces of Vecna that had been recovered after the many times he had taken corporeal form. This items (teeth, fingers, etc) maintained some power but nothing compared to the original artifacts of Vecna. This items were taken from forms Vecna had generated or possess in recent centuries. Their power was no where near the two relics which survived the destruction of Vecna’s original form (the hand and eye). Still the party collected these pieces as they went and they eventually provided access to another sanctum within the Adytum. To cross over however the party had to severe parts of their own bodies and replace them with the Vecian artifacts. Einhonder refused to do this though the party still found a means to get him past the magics that would hold him at bay. There down one hallway they found a dead eye guardian and the altar where the Eye of Vecna was once held. Someone had taken it. the Eye of Vecna. There was another hallway with a Hand Golem but the party elected not to travel that path. Instead they proceeded onward and came to another stone gate which emanated mist. They blindly crossed over.

-6th-Die Vecna Die!: Part 3: Citadel Cavitius:
-Baalthazar-Einhonder-Wally-Popaxe-Caldwell-
Note: This adventure adventure picks up on Vecna where the Ravenloft Campaign left off. In the end of that campaign Vecna was left as the soul inhabitant of Ravenloft. The walls of the Demiplane enforced by Vecna’s own divine power.
The party had crossed through a gateway from extradimensional plane through a misty portal. They had inadvertently tracked IUZ to Ravenloft, the Demiplane of Dread. It was here that Vecna had been trapped since the party had cast him in through the gate at the conclusion of their last encounter. (These events occurred at the climax of “Vecna Lives” in the original Greyhawk Campaign). The party found themselves floating through mist. They propelled themselves toward a gateway in the distance. They were momentarily encountered by cloaked deaths bearing scythes. These creatures would have slain the party had they not recognized Baalthzar as a fellow hand of death. Instead they aided the party. The party exited this rift to find a detachment of IUZ’s ogre legions waiting for them. After killing this band the party headed to the nearby city. They came upon Vecna’s seat of power. A massive necromantic city erected in a desert raised around his great Citadel Cavitius, a castle built to resemble a skull. The party easily infiltrated the city of the dead and made their way inside the citadel via stealth. They began to explore within fighting only when they had to. The palace was littered with skeletons, zombies, wights, and vampires. At one point during their exploration they could here the castle walls shake. Noth Dreadrin had arrived. The planar general would never give up his pursuit of the party. The party did what they could do avoid facing this death dealer even hiding when necessary. No one was more fearsome of Dreadrin then the great Popaxe. Within Vecna’s library the party found a sad mindless undead scribing in a book. They were horrified and somewhat amused to discover this body to be that of Sith Theigis. This body had made a great journey. As the vessel of Sith Theigis this body had lived for centuries until finally meeting its end. Then it had been resurrected during the parties first adventure. Theigis had remained an adversary to the party throughout their career. Then only weeks before Theigis had traveled into the distant past where the party had slain him. The party had fled as the young Vecna had come upon them. Apparently the Young Vecna knew the corpse held some relevance and maintained since. The body had re-experiecned all those centuries anew as a mindless undead. Vecna was continuously trying to access the bodies memories which proved virtual impossible because when the party had last slain Theigis and his soul had become housed in the Scarab of protection that Einhonder now wore. If and when Einhonder was hit by a death attack he would killed and Sith would then possess his body. Somehow Vecna had gotten around this and similar to a stonetell spell the corpse was now scribing all events it had witnessed. All the books in the library were filled with the experiences this being had witnessed. The corpse seemed drawn to the Scarab which held its soul and upon touching it the magic was released. The soul and body became one and Sith Theigis was reformed. With no equiptment, no spellbook, and nothing memorise, Theigios offered the party little threat. They explained what was going on. That somehow IUZ or Vecna was about to end the multiverse. Sith actually convinced the party to give him back his equiptment in exchange for his aid. They agreed and the most unlikely alliance was born. This ubsurdity continued when Noth Dreadrin caught up to the party and Sith commanded him to stand down. It was Sith who controlled Dreadrin so he too now stood with the party. It seemed the architect of the worlds undoing was unifying both good and evil in the common goal of survival. As this super party proceeded they faced Shadowfiends, Spectres and Acolytes. They even encountered a Death Knight claiming to be Kas the Destroyer. This Kas led them to Vecna’s chambers where the party came to a battle of Vena’s most powerful necromancers facing the Stygian Knights, IUZ’s champions. The party waited for the battle to end then mobbed up the rest. They entered Vecna’s chambers to find a battle between gods. Vecna and IUZ were embroiled in some epic combat. Iuz was wielding the Sword of Kas and had imbedded in his head the eye of Vecna. It seemed as though Iuz was pushing through and overcoming Vecna’s defenses but in the end Vecna held IUZ paralyzed. He put his hand on IUZ’s head consuming IUZ in flames. He scolded the Demon god as he consumed all his essence. Having annexed IUZ’s divine power to his own Venca was finally able to break the walls of Ravenloft. Einhonder tried to attack Vecna with the Sword of Kas but Vecna faded away claiming that the end was at hand. In his wake the demiplane of Ravenloft had nothing left to power it. The realm began to disapate. Not even the will of the dead powers who controlled the realm from their graves in the Astral Plane could stop this. Within moments Ravenloft, the Demiplane of Dread was irrovacable destroyed. In a distant realm the Heroes of the Hex could feel the bane of their existence finally purged. Meanwhile were the demiplane once stood was being re-enveloped by the Astral plane. The party found themselves once again floating in a rift. They willed themselves the best they could toward following Venca. With a sudden surge of energy the party felt themselves violently pulse through the space time continuum of Multiversal fabric. The particles of both their bodies and souls were being ripped to pieces. With an explosion they were freed. Badly injured but still breathing. The quest was far from over.

-7th-Die Vecna Die!: Part 4: The City of Doors:
-Baalthazar-Einhonder-Wally-Popaxe-Caldwell-
The party had fought across the face of Oerth, through fabricated extraverses, through Ravenloft, the demiplane of Dread, they had witness a battle of gods, the death of IUZ, the ascention of Vecna and now found themselves on the streets of Sigil, The City of Doors, the City built in the center of the Planescape. If the end of the Multiverse was at hand, this is no doubt where the battle would be fought. Some of the party members had knowledge of Sigil and they explained what the place was about. In the center of the outer planes lies the small plane of Concordant Opposition. In the center of this plane is Sigil, City of Doors. Every place in the multiverse is accessable through a portal found somewhere in Sigil. The city itself is ruled utterly by an Elder force called the lady of pain. The most impressive thing about Sigil is that no god may enter. This was a fundamental law of creation when the plane was forged. Vecna’s presense here was in violation of this law. These laws set down by the Primortal creators of the multiverse was not one that could be simply ignored. Vecna’s mere presense was undoing all the laws and a systematic breakdown was beginning. The party made their way through the city as Wally was making a sad discovery. Apparently he had been killed while in Ravenloft and was now a greater undead being (A Winterwight). His flesh was falling away to reveal his undead form. The party could do little for him and it seemed this new form might actually aid him. It did not take long for the party to find where Vecna had went. He had taken over a fortress known as the Armory. Apparently the party had been lost in the rift for days as events had developed in their absence. Poised outside this Armory was armies of every denomination. Every so often a group would charge fourth only to be instantaneously disentergrated by the magics Vecna had in place. Some of the prime material’s most powerful inhabitants were present including The Pirate Lord Rygar, Warduke, Harjan and Torbin Menror, Serbian Lightbringer, Elkhorn Lord of Dwarves, Lukas Arcanum, and many others. The party came upon Mordenkainen as he spoke with other great wizards of distant realms Elminster of the Forgotten Realms, and Dalamar of Krynn (Dragonlance). All seemed mystified as how to proceed. It was then the party heard the Holy Prophecy of Vecna as all in Sigil had since his arrival.
“Hear the Holy prophecy of Vecna, Supreme Deity of All the Infinite Spaces and Every Space in between. Says the Lord: You cannot and will not reach me with malice in your heart. I will not allow it. I your thoughts as you think them, for I am become a true god. Yet my power now is nothing to that which I am soon to reach, when I reach forth from the very center of multiversal disentergration and reorder the cosmos, according to my whims, from first to last dimension. Those who stand against me will be wiped from existence , as if they had never been. But those who forswore past allegiance and ledge themselves to the one supreme lord of creation may be brought into the new world . Decide soon, for reality rapidly speeds toward dissolution and my ultimate ascension.”
The great Lady of Pain could seen looking on hopelessly. The party went to engage she instantly communicated all they need know. Only those bearing the parts of the master could enter the lair of the master. And only the sword of Kas wielded by the hand of Vecna could stand against him. Caldwell had long pushed the party to recover the hand before facing Vecna and now that seemed imenent. The party learned that many gods now stood poised outside Sigil and went to see what was to be. As they exited the city they found a vista unlike any seen. All the power gods had come. Many stood together as Pantheons. Odin, Zues, and Ra appeared accompanied by their Progeny. The gods of good and evil stood together. At long last came Asmodeus and the nine armies of Hell. He spoke with Jazariel of the Seven Heavens as the two oldest beings in existence knew the end was near. The party called to the gods but god little answer. Until atlast Wee Jas appeared. Baalthzar’s god equipted the party with Divinely powerful items and cast them back to the Adytum. There they quickly recovered the Hand of Vecna and returned to face the enemy. The Party now stood before the armory preparing for their final march. Sith Theigis turned to Dreadrin and released him of his bonds. He gave Dreadrin one final mission. To find the devil Scratch and kill him before the world ended. The party had one more artifact now and elected to bring Mordenkaien with them. So together with Mordenkainen and Sith Theigis the party marched to worlds end. Within the armory they battled archetypal undead and extraplanar fiends of awesome power. They pushed on into the depths until finally standing to confront Vecna at his altar. The supreme god was momentarily confused but sought to kill the party quickly. It was then he realized the relics they had attached to their body would shield them from his ultimate magic. He grew enraged. The party tried to strike at the great lich but he seemed capable of taking any blows they could muster. Mordenkain and Sith unleashed Epic Spellcraft which could barley hurt the god. The party fought against Vecna’s champions and then as Vecna understood his magic could not directly effect them he changed strategies. He began to call into existence horrific beings that could never exist. An undead fiendish Tarresque emerged. Then a demonlord. The whispers of the Serpent were telling him what to create. Caldwell continued to maze these creatures as they appeared and finally Popaxe bearing the hand of Vecna and Sword of Kas was able to break through. The King of Kings of Dwarves hammered away with unbridled might. In the end Vecna could not hold up. He sought a final damnation but as was his ultimate fate he could not complete his statement. In a burst of energy Vecna was destroyed. The heroes had prevailed, the Multiverse would continue though changed by what had happened. All living beings now owed the heroes a debt. The Lady of Pain relayed a message to the party that all life was in their debt. She granted them that Vecna should he return would never have his vengeance upon them. Additionally they were all awarded a key that could be used in any entrance to create a portal to Sigil. Finally they were all awarded homes in Sigil. The heroes also received an image of how the world had changed.
(Note: These changes canonically created 3rd edition D&D)
Some outer planes drifted off and are forever lost, other collided and merged, while atleast one outer plane ran aground on a distant world of the prime. Moreover the very nature of the Prime Material Plane is altered. Half worlds like those attached to Tovag Baragu multiply a millionfold, taking on parallel realism in what was before a unified prime. The concept of alternate dimension rears its ugly head, but doesn’t solidify and perhaps it never will. New realms, both near and far, are revealed, and realms never previously imagined make themselves known. Entities long thought lost emerge once more, while other creatures, both big and small, are inexplicably eradicated. One thing amongst all is clear. Nothing will ever be the same again.

Greater Campaign note: Vecna was the final manifestation of Aru’s vengeance. Having been reduced to but a whisper from the Astral plane whose voice could only be heard by Vecna who had bonded with the magical fabrics of existence interpreted Aru as the Serpent whose will of Entrophy he unknowingly served. Aru, one of the nine Primortal gods had wreaked Destruction upon the realms of creation for eons. Ogar, Ulv, The heroes of the Banishment, The Heroes of the Hex, The Defenders of Oakwood, The Lords of Talysyr, Andrais, The Luminaries of Kharzen, The Heroes of Greyhawk, The Pentagon of Power, and countless others stood against his many manifestations. Where Asmodeus (Ahriman), Zentaris, Ordathus, Carnage, Kuth Krythlu, The Tarresquen, Mekari, and other vessels tread there were always heroes to oppose them. Where evil took hold, Good would always stand to oppose them.

Throne of Bloodstone:

-Caldwell-Popaxe-Baalthazar-Einhonder-Markos-

The party had all retired. It had been many years since the fall of Vecna. Popaxe had taken his rightful kingdom as the King of King of Dwarves. Baalthazar had his City of the Dead. Einhonder had become a great Lord on Furyondy and Caldwell had his tower where he practiced great sorcery. Markos Bowman ruled a forest realm and all was well. In fact all the heroes had fared well save for one. During the events of the Vecna Crisis Glinfrimmus had been turned into a powerful undead. Since that time Glinfrimmus had become apprentice to Sith Theigis. In the years that passed they had tried to no avail to cure Glinfrimmus of his undead affliction. Now Theigis had found the reason why they had thus far failed.

He summoned the party to meet once more and explained the situation. He once again invoked the Consortium of Sorcerers. These were an ancient order of wizards who long ago ruled an empire. After the twin cataclysms they had been scatter. Many of them had found ways to prolong their lives through the millennium. Sith Theigis was the youngest of these members. The master of the consortium had been Vecna, his first lieutenant Acerak. The party had destroyed all remnants of the consortium including its lesser members Keraptis and Lyzandred. Their undead power Theigis explained stemmed from a central source that still thrived. This power is what now bound Glinfrimmus. This power, was that of Orcus, Demon God of the Undead. If they were to save Glinfrimmus they would need to confront the DemonLord.

Sith Theigis outlined a plan that he had painstakingly developed. The party would have to travel to a distant land on a distant world and enter the Castle of Orcus’s greatest champion in the prime material plane. For this champion had a portal which lead directly into Orcus’s lair. Thiegis planeshifted the party and they attempted to scout the castle when they ceased upon by a Arctigis, a huge, ancient White Dragon. They defeated the beast but more minions came in the form of numerous True Demons. The party defeated these monsters, entered the castle, defeated the Lich-King Zhengyi and entered the portal in his antechamber.

This portal lead to the Abyss but it was not a direct connection to Orcus’s realm. Instead it was a path that one would need know how to follow to shortly navigate through small pieces of the Abyss. When the party arrived they found themselves on Pazunia, first layer of the abyss, the realm of the demon lord Pazuzu. The party would travel through the layers of the abyss via many conduits. Along the way battling hundreds of demons as well as Fyrillicus, an abyssal red dragon. They even defeated the Minatuar Demon lord Baphomet before reaching Orcus’s realm.

As the party infiltrated Orcus’s realm they could see his castle. A platform on top held the Wand in Clear view. Seemingly it powered the castle somehow. The party knew it could not be that easy but they went for it anyway. Upon teleporting to that location Orcus immediately appeared and battle ensued. Dozens of true demons stormed the battle as well. Orcus took out many party members but in the end he was defeated. The party was forced to flee as legions continued to attack but they had recovered the wand.

Back in Greyhawk they met with Theigis who now instructed them that to fully destroy Orcus and his power the Wand itself needed to be destroyed and there was only one known way. It would need to be bathed in the blood of Tiamat. Upon hearing this the party quickly abandoned the idea. Tiamat was simply an opponent they could not face. Instead Popaxe took the way to protect it. The party returned to their lives of rulership and retirement as the demonic legions of the Abyss began their quest to recover the Wand of Orcus, Demon-God of the Undead.
