Though the town bears the title of "Dale" it is infact but a single small town. Located in Southern Shadowdale nestled upon the Ashabenford river. The town was founded by "The Riders of the Free Dale".This group of retired adventurers was led by none other than The High Wizard Netheril and some of the more prominent members were Alstott Battledorn and One Arm McGinty. Many battles have been fought here whether it be a magical duel or an all out war between the drow and the dalesman. The riders settled this town about 30 years ago after being awarded the large plot by the lord of Shadowdale Doust Sulwood. Many adveturers have left this dale with a bad taste in their mouth left by the former ruler the, tyranical megalomaniac Alstott. One adventurer even took it so bad that he descrated Alstott's grave after his mysteriuos death.Adventures oftenly come to the area to seek out their riches in the ancient elven structures and tombs that still dot the landscape. Not far from Netheril's tower there is The Sick Mound ,an unatural mound of black earth as large as the town itself.
The entire region is consistent of rich farmland. Freedale remains a busy place. Elves traveling west often stop in Freedale for supplies. As do many adventurers and other travelers of the Dalelands. Likewise Freedale is a common stop for many travelers of the Ashabenford river.
