Amanda Bynes
Amanda Laura Bynes is our Famous Kid for April.
There are two reasons.
1. She was born April 3, 1986. She's 17 years old now!
2. Her film What a Girl Wants has been released this month.
What she's like
She has been making people laugh ever since she was a kid. Her parents were always cracking up at her. Her family consists of her mom and dad Lynn and Richard, her older brother Tom, and her older sister Jillian. They encouraged her acting.
Even though she's rich and famous, Amanda has her feet on the ground. Her family is first in her life. Yes, she also does homework! No wonder she's a straight-A student at school!
Her parents make sure she doesn't see R-rated films.
"I think my parents are a big part of that because I'm still a normal kid. Like there are times I get frustrated because I want to wear certain shoes and they don't want me to wear them. It's all good in the end because I realize that there will be a time and place for high shoes."Childhood Acts
When she was 7, she was an orphan in Annie at the Camarillo Youth Center. She acted in many stage roles
As Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird she was noticed by critics.
She was in the lead as Mary in The Secret Garden
When she was 9, she graduated from a stand-up comedy class in Hollywood. Here, she was spotted by talent scouts for Nickelodeon.
I got to be a kid and have fun and play different characters and play dress up and learn. It was like an acting class. I made really good friends that I still have now. There were like 30 inner city kids. You would go in with a few jokes and attach it into an act of some sort. Every Friday a veteran comic would come in like Richard Pryor or Arsenio Hall and the comic genius would critique each act and help you make it better.
Amanda was 10 when she debuted on All That Nickolodeon's comedy series before live audiences.
Amanda's Career
In 1999 Amanda was rewarded for her efforts. She got her own show, The Amanda Show , on Nickelodeon.
People liked her exuberance in "Big Fat Liar", her movie starring Frankie Muniz.
In 2002, she was given the Kids' Choice Blimp award for Favorite Actress.She created characters of her own like Judge Trudy, Penelope Tyant, and others. She has been on the hit HBO original series Arli$$.
Dreams
Amanda dreams of having her own family and kids one day. She would like to act in different kinds of films.
"The sky's the limit for her. The world is her oyster," said Jordan Levin, a WB entertainment president. "Amanda's funny, talented, poised. And she's cute."
Advice for young actors
Just to do theater and if it's really what you want to do, stay passionate and don't give up. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it.
