TABANOG FESTIVAL!

This is the kite festival of the Philippines. Many years ago, the Chinese people invented kites - not just to play- but also to use in war.

When merchants came to the Philippines from China, they brought kites with them, and now the kite flying festival has become an annual feature in the Philippines.

Children have competitions, trying to see which of the huge, three-dimensional kites, stays up the longest, and isn't cut into by another kite!

Three years ago, the "Tabanog Alang Sa Kalinaw" was born: Kite Flying for Peace. The organizers felt that if many people all over the Philippines flew kites on the same day, May 18th, they would show that there was a strong movement for peace.

Kites are all over the world. Look out for kite flying seasons in other countries!
