Somebody needs to say it. So, here it is: Hulk Hogan is an asshole.
Need proof? I've amassed plenty of it over the past month since the Shawn Michaels/Hogan feud commenced. And just to be a bitch, I'm gonna do this in red and yellow.
Let's start with the fact that Hogan didn't even feel the need to appear on almost any Raws leading up to his main event at the second biggest PPV of the year. So, what was he doing while Shawn Michaels was single-handedly building up their feud every week? Conducting interviews to 1) put himself over and 2) degrade and insult wrestlers who have ten times more talent in their little fingers than Hogan possesses in his entire 6'6" wrinkly, leathery carcass. Let's observe:
Hogan on Steve Austin: "Austin has been in the business about 18 years and he was on top for four. I wrestled main events for 25 years. I could pull my dick out and I might be on top for four years - it's called 'cheap heat.' Somebody who stays on top 25 years has to have more than that. It has to be in your spirit."- from the July/August issue of Sly Magazine.
Bear in mind that Austin was "only" on top for four years because of the fact that he did something that Hogan has never done in his career- busted his ass every single night in the ring to put on the best wrestling match he possibly could, which led to him getting a career-ending injury. It's easy to last 25 years when you barely take two bumps per match and your opponent does 90% of the work. I don't get the impression from this that Hogan feels insecure due to Steve's immense popularity (that drew ratings away from the Hogan-led nWo in the late '90s/early '00s), do you? Surely not.
Hogan comparing his movies to Rock's: If you watch what my movies made against what The Rock's movies are doing now, taking into account changing ticket prices and how many more theaters his movies were shown in, I still generated more revenue than he did."- from the same magazine as the above quote.
Whoopdee-doopdee Hulk, does that petty fact enable you to sleep easier at night? By the way, your movies still sucked. And if not for the fact that they came out during the Hulkamania era when millions of brainwashed kids (myself included, sadly) were obsessed with you, your movies wouldn't have drawn a cracked nickel.
Hogan on Shawn's "breaking the script" during a Raw promo- "...it was a straight-out cheap shot and that's where he's coming from - the lower tier, or the bottom-feeder position..."- from an interview with Rock 103.7 radio in Anthen, Georgia.
How condescending and jealous can this man be to even actually presume that Shawn Michaels is a "bottom feeder"? It's just beyond ridiculous. You can't get more main event than Shawn Michaels. This is a man who has literally broken his back for the wrestling business, giving 100% night in and night out to send the fans home happy, a man who's had more five-star main event matches in the span of one year than Hogan has had in twenty-five years (even though you'd only need to have one five-star match to outdo Hogan), and this baldy-headed cretin has the audacity to label him a "bottom feeder"?
Hogan, on the "meaning" of his match at Summerslam: "It's about me. This is my time. I've always been the man. I don't mean to sound pompous, but it's true."- from a Canadian Press interview.
Guess what, Hulk? Whether you meant to sound pompous or not, you do. For a 52 year old man with a three move arsenal who still lives off the same gimmick he's been using for 20 years to state "This is my time", in a day when guys like Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Batista, and John Cena are clearly on the top of the mountain, is pompous enough to choke on. Unless it's suddenly 1985 again, this is NOT your time. Hobble your gimpy ass back into Ye Olde Time Machine and piss off.
And, the coup de grace to prove that Hogan is not only an asshole, but clinically insane, an excerpt from a recap of an interview with Hogan on WMOA 1490 radio in West Virginia, which took place after Summerslam:
The topic of SummerSlam came up and Hogan said he was proud of the match that came out. He was asked why he won the match against a full-time WWE star and Hogan responded that he bent over backwards putting over Shawn Michaels by making the crowd believe Michaels is good enough to hang with The Immortal Hulk Hogan. He said by shaking Michaels hand after the match, he helped further put over Michaels. He then said after watching Raw Monday night, he wishes he had thought more carefully about putting in so much effort to help out another wrestler.
For those of you whose heads didn't explode while reading that. I don't think I've ever seen that much pure, unadulterated bullshit in one paragraph in my life. While I'm sure this was Hogan's (pathetic) attempt at taking a shot at Shawn for his promo on the Raw following Summerslam, there's no doubt in my mind that he honestly feels this way. But if he honestly believes that he in any way "put over" Shawn at any single point during this entire feud, he deserves to be committed. It's just laughable to insinuate that a man of Michaels' talent isn't good enough to "hang" with a dried out, talentless sloth like Hogan.
From everything I've read so far, Hogan was playing politics on a gargantuan scale leading up to this match, with the ending of the match still up in the air the day of the show. In the end, Hogan supposedly agreed to put Cena over cleanly at 'Mania 22 if he could be Shawn clean at Summerslam. The saddest thing about all of this is that it was Shawn himself who stated in an interview with WWE.com months and months ago that wrestling Hogan was one of his few remaining "dream matches"- and he ended up getting bent over from start to finish. From what I've read about all the backstage intrigue between these two leading up to this match, Vince should count himself lucky if he has any hair left.
So there you have it. The Immortal Hulk Hogan, who (for some inexplicable reason) millions of morons still seem to idolize today, is an asshole suffering from rectal-cranial inversion. I've heard unfortunate rumors that he'll be coming back for Wrestlemania (of course, 'cause that's where he can get the biggest paycheck) to wrestle either Cena or Austin. God help us all. And especially the people who can still cheer for this man... they're clearly just as deranged as he is.
