Wood Element template

Wood element creatures have the same general form as their normal counterparts, but are made entirely out of wood, branches, and leaves. They have ebon, opaline spheres for eyes, and their clawlike hands end in jagged splinters.

Creating a Wood Element Creature

“Wood Element” is a template that can be added to any corporeal creature of the following base types: Aberration, animal, magical beast, or vermin. It uses all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities except as noted below.

Size: As base creature.

Type: The creature’s type changes to “Plant.” It loses all subtypes and does not gain the “Augmented” subtype. Recalculate base attack bonus, saving throws, feats, and skills accordingly.

Hit Dice: Change to d8.

Speed: Normal (ground) speed is halved. Other types of movement are unaffected.

Armor Class: Natural armor improves by +2.

Base Attack Bonus: As a plant, a wood element creature’s base attack bonus is equal to 3/4 its Hit Dice (as a cleric).

Attack: A wood element creature retains all the natural attacks of the base creature.

Special Attacks: A wood element creature retains all the special attacks of the base creature and also gains the following:

Spikes (Ex): A wood element creature can release volleys of bark, splinters, or wood shards, up to four such spikes per round, as a standard action. This attack has a range increment of 30 ft. Damage is 1d6 + Strength bonus. The wood element creature can launch a number of spikes per day equal to twice its Hit Dice.

Special Qualities: A wood element creature retains all the special qualities of the base creature and also gains the following ones:

Damage Reduction: A wood element creature gains damage reduction based on its Hit Dice:

Hit Dice Damage Reduction
1-3 -
4-6 5/slashing
7-10 10/slashing
11-15 15/slashing
16-20 20/slashing

Plant: Immune to poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, polymorphing, and mind-influencing effects. Not subject to critical hits. Plants have low-light vision.

Woodsense (Ex): A wood element creature can automatically sense the location of anything within 60 feet that is in contact with vegetation, even if the wood element creature is not in contact with the same vegetation.

Saves: Wood element creatures have good Fortitude saves.

Abilities: Same as the base creature.

Skills: Same as the base creature. If the wood element creature has an Intelligence of 4 or greater, it speaks Sylvan and the language of treants.

Feats: Same as the base creature.

Challenge Rating: Same as base creature +1.

Alignment: Usually Neutral.
