Well its a few days before halloween as I write this review. It's been rolling around in my head for months but it took this movie to get me to start reviewing movies. The 'Land of the Dead' movie is fantastic! I am slightly biased I like zombie movies and I absolutely revere Romero's zombie flicks. This movie is just a lot of fun. If you read other people's reviews you will hear them talk about the amazing amount of gore and the social commentary in the movie. I figure I should follow the mold. Gory? Yes it is but what did you expect? Zombies like humans for snacks.... how would that lend itself to not being gory. That is just a stupid observation. Yes this movie is violent, bloody and at times icky but it is also a lot of fun. That being said let me give a quick synopsis. The world has become populated with zombies. This isn't all that amazing because following zombie rules dead people become them. Amazingly people keep dying.... so zombies keep being created. This time the zombies are a little less of the stumbling bumbling variety. They are stronger, more numerous and they have a new leader. Yep one zombie can think. The humans piss this zombie off and he rallies his dead homies and follows them home. He brings along a united zombie army and havoc ensues as a less then united human world has trouble getting themselves together to face this new threat. The stars aligned for this flick. We have Dennis Hopper, John Leguizamo, Asia Argento, the guys from 'Shaun of the Dead', Simon Baker and some other people that I have no idea who they are. Dennis Hopper is a great bad guy. Which of course leads to the social commentary of the film. Dennis Hopper plays his role like he is part of the Bush Admininstration or so they say in the bonus scenes on the dvd. This is nothing new for George Romero, he always pokes fun at the current world. Think about the zombies shopping in Dawn of the Dead. I think there is a lot of reasons to see this movie like survival tips. I'll leave you with this one, when the dead come for you aim for the head.
